Faber: I Still Don't Know if I'll Be Police Chief
Vladimir Faber is refraining from commenting because there will be
more candidates, but the new minister asked for him.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - - It would be very frivolous and unprofessional to
say anything, give any statements, because nothing is black on white
yet - Vladimir Faber, current advisor at the Croatian Interior
Ministry and the prime minister's candidate for police chief, told
Javno.

Faber should be the right hand man to the new police minister,
Tomislav Karamarko. According to our sources, Karamarko made his
appointment in the government conditional upon Faber being the new
police director at a time when the government's position is quite
insecure due to the escalation of violence in the country.

Who is Vladimir Faber?

Some deem his order for the police to take action against Belgrade's
Crvena zvezda fans in Zagreb as a crucial move ahead of the start of
the open war.

Anyhow, Faber had several such - crucial - events in his career. He
was the one who should have given the order for police to take action
against citizens gathered in Zagreb's main square as they were
protesting shutting down of Radio 101. He refused to give the order,
which cost the then interior minister, Ivan Jarnjak, and most of his
assistants, their careers. He was on some less attractive positions at
the interior ministry and during the Racan government, he took a very
high position at the police directorate.

He was brilliant and the interior minister sent him to carry out the
investigation against Branimir Glavas. When he completed that too,
Faber wanted to leave the ministry, but the Getos scandal disrupted
his negotiations. He should be Karamarko's chief right-hand man.

But since this is the duty for which a public tender must be issued,
Faber will have to wait for the tender to be issued, apply for the job
and only then wait for his appointment.

Faber may not be the only candidate for police director. But his
application is expected to be accepted.
