Hi can anyone help me to locate a study mentioned quickly at the ASPEN
week12 conference this year ,Tuesday session 3-430 pm?
What I caught was a Cochrane study involving 900 patients ,about being
NPO after surgery may increase mortality (59% ? Mortality??) .

glutamine addiction in tumor cells

in many papers the tumors are said to be highly glutaminolytic and it is
shown in cell cultures especially in breast cancer models..however in
animal models, it is shown that glutamine is very useful and effective..i
think there is a controversy..do we feed tumor by giving glutamine? i did... more »

Acute liver failure

We've got a CABG patient (POD25) on TPN (21 days), obese, ventilated, recent hemicolectomy (POD5) due to ischemic bowel, with new acute liver failure (likely shock per MD). MD took lipids out of TPN and wants to give 50g protein/day (.5g/kg) due to acute liver failure. MD is concerned patient 'can't metabolize protein' with ALF. Thoughts anyone? Thanks.... more »

Hello all- 68yo Female w/ VDRF secondary to Guillain-Barre (onset Oct 2011). Admitted to our facility for respiratory management on March 13. Pt has been having intractable diarrhea since 3/27 despite negative C.diff, multiple TF & med/abx changes. Anyone using a protein intake of 2.5 g/kg/d when a critically Ill,
ventilated patient requiring
Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy?
Both enteral and parenteral?
Are there any usefull trails to support the use of this feeding
regime?

We are currently reviewing the GRV that we use on our ICU of 250mls.
Im aware that some ICUs are currently using 400-500ml could someone
direct me to the appropriate literature or evidence to support this.

Our hospital is reviewieng our formulary and conisdering using a 1.5cal/ml fiber tube feeding product as our standard house formula in order to meet patient nutritional goals faster and to ensure that adequate feeding is given.
