The NUTRIC score is the first nutritional risk assessment tool specifically developed and validated in the critically ill population by Dr. Heyland and colleagues (1). A new publication by Rahman et al (2) set out to externally validate a modified version of the NUTRIC score. They concluded that the NUTRIC score is externally validated and can be used to identify patients in the ICU who, in terms of mortality, are most likely to benefit from adequate macronutrients.
