The PEP uP Nutrition Collaborative, which will start this fall, is designed to foster a network of clinicians committed to the optimal delivery of enteral nutrition therapy in the ICU. The aim of this collaborative is to provide practical tools and strategies to improve the delivery of enteral nutrition, including a volume-based feeding protocol (The PEP uP Protocol), along with additional resources and education of the multidisciplinary team. This initiative will provide dietitians, nurses, and physicians the opportunity to improve current nutrition practices, resulting in better patient outcomes. This initiative will also enable these practitioners to further their role as nutrition educators in the ICU.

Four ICUs across Canada will be chosen to participate in this project. Participating sites will receive:
  • a site visit and presentation from a member of the Critical Care Nutrition team
  • access to an educational DVD presentation to train their multidisciplinary team
  • supporting tools such as visual aids and protocol templates
  • a PEP uP starter pack provided by Nestle, including a supply of Peptamen 1.5® and Beneprotein®, and a tablet computer for use at the bedside to assist with nutrition monitoring using a novel tool we have developed
  • access to a member of the Critical Care Nutrition team who will support each site during the collaborative
  • access to an online discussion group around questions unique to PEP-UP
  • a detailed site report, showing nutrition performance, following participation in the International Nutrition Survey 2013
The application form, along with some additional information, is attached to this message, or can be downloaded here. The deadline for applications is May 14, 2012.

Not a Canadian ICU? If you are not within Canada but still wish to be involved in the PEP uP Collaborative, you may still apply to participate. While we are unable to provide the Nestle starter pack to non-Canadian sites, we may be able to give you access to the PEP uP Collaborative tools and resources.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

It is anticipated that sites will start implementing the protocol/participating in the collaborative in September. Data collection for the International Nutrition Survey will start in early 2013.
Cheers,
Lauren
