Hello all,
I'm following up on the last posting to this list re a ccsg day 2012. It's to coincide with the 10th anniversary of cc (or was it 12th?).

Some thoughts to get the discussion going: last year we had a call to action as then a meet up. The call to action required people to contribute something under CC. Then next part was a remix and finally the meetup as a showcase.

I found the contributions were almost all from contacts and friends I approached. I know some of you here helped spread the word but conclusion was that getting people to take that first step of sharing/ contributing to ccsg day required personal contacts (cos we have zero budget for prizes etc)

IDEA: This year do you think a "100 CC SG contribution" would work? The aim is to get a symbolic 100 "things" (music, blog posts, pictures etc) to be released as cc among the SG community by dec 2012. People can add themselves at a fb page or we can set up a wiki.

Where you can come in is to (suggestion only) pledge to get 10 people to take part. And hopefully from those 10 they can influence more.

Like last year, i'm seeking volunteers to (1) meet to brainstorm for ideas that we feel is practical, (2) see how to put into action. Ok I'll be upfront also: those who turn up for the Meetup usually gets some work assigned --though no one get forced to work ;)

As always this is a discussion. Feel free to comment/ propose/ take pity on me and say that you'll help LOL

Cheers
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

I think the mechanism would be important, in terms of visibility to the
community. When someone decides to license something under CC as part of
the 100 goal, is there an appealing way for the person to indicate that
he/she has done so and encourage others to do the same? I'm not sure how
to do that in a user-friendly manner short of writing a FB app for it.
Probably using Facebook is anyway a good idea, to take advantage of
friendship networks for spreading the word. Another idea: similarly to
fundraising tactics, perhaps we can have some artists or institutions
pledge that they will add another 100 items from their own collections
to the pool, but only if the goal of 100 individual contributions is
reached? This is to make the goal of 100 mean something and to increase
the salience of individual contributions. Also, an exhibition of
best/all works at some local venue (if not hackerspace) might motivate
people. It could be as easy as setting up some big displays/projector
with an internet connection on the ccsg day. Anyway, these are just some
semi-coherent thoughts... I'm thinking about how to instill a sense of
community, of something greater... while also reinforcing the message
that growing the pool of things we share in common depends on each and
every one of us. Somehow the things we ask of people to share must
become meaningful, by being exhibited, reused, acknowledged in some
manner. Otherwise just posting something on a FB page or liking a page,
while not bad in itself, may not feel special enough. Again, just some
thoughts...
