Dear Sir,
If you are experiencing problems with the Live / Liveware under Windows
2000 you should firstly verify the following.
Is / Was the sound card operating prior to installtion of Windows 2000.
Is / Was the sound card working after the installation of Windows 2000.
Since Windows 200 performs a silent install for Creative cards it should
produce sound straight away. The Liveware
software installation is not required, the card should work quite happily
with WIndows applications.
Is your system running with the latest BIOS. Problems with hardware in
Windows 2000 caan be frequently traced back to the BIOS. You should check
for an updtae from your motherboard
vendor, you can also find a list at http://www.ping.be/bios.
Are other cards in your system full ACPI compaible. WIndows 2000 uses
Advanced power Management, if a device in your system is not fully ACPI
compatible then problems will occur.
As a diagnostic remove all other devices from the system or check with the
hardware vendor.
Try booting into the previous working installation of Windows 2000 and
attempting the install again.
Check out
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q237/5/56.ASP?LNG=CAN&SA=&F
R=1.
There may be incompatibilities with other software which we are not yet
aware of. You should install the Windows 2000 version of Liveware more or
less straight away onto your system
before any other hardware.
Check that all other devices in the Device Manager are installed correctly.
If there are problems with other hardware and you cannot resolve the problem
removethe device. If this device
is not removeable and is a system devices you will need to resolve this
problem before continuing with any other hardware/software installations.
If you are still experiencing difficulties with the installation of the
Liveware here is a procedure outline below that may help.
Remove any existing SB Live software and drivetrs. Particularly those that
may be hacked or non-offical versions.
There is a Liveware cleanup file available at http://www.ntcompatible.com
This is particularly relevant if you have used hacked or Dell drivers. Open
the file Cleanup.cmd in a text editor
and ensure all these files are deleted from the system. You should be able
to do this from the command prompt.
Returning to the desktop extract the Creative Liveware software. They'll
usually extract into the Windows\Temp folder when using WinZip.
Use the update driver wizard in the device manager to point to the extracted
drivers/files. Restart the PC once finished.
Run the Setup.exe from the downloaded files and restart.
Finally, be aware that all software and hardware installation should be done
with Administrator privalges. If you log in as another user with lesser
system privaleges you may not be able
to complete the installation.
Regards,
Nicola
