We just got a fabulous donation of equipment this weekend and sounds like Justin is going to show it off!

Enjoy!

Subject: [crash] Radio Mondays: electromotive force and you
To: crashspace <crash...@googlegroups.com>

One of the most interesting topics I know is the subject of motors. In the end, it's all about mass and energy. Every kind of motor has its strengths and weaknesses, and relative power. And motors that use an radio-electro-magnetic component are a  very diverse bunch.

On the familiar end is the familiar so-called electric motor (which might better be called an electromagnetic motor), attached to something else to do the driving, a wheel or a propeller. And it has a cousin, the diamagnetic levitation drive that trains do, where one can imagine the rail and the train being separated parts of such a motor.

In the ocean, because of the properties of seawaters, magnetohydrodynamical thrusters can accelerate water through a pipe with no moving parts, providing clean thrust to ships.

In the air, electrohydrodynamic elements can push electrostatically charged air past arrays of the same to create air currents without turbulence or noise, and find use in "ionic breeze" products, bladeless fans, and popular imagination of flying saucers via EHD "floaters".

And in the final frontier, ion engines bring their own charged reaction mass, and accelerate it to massive speed so as to get the most out of it.

Past this, are the photon drives and reactionless warp engines of speculation, some more plausible than others.

We'll go through some of these, and look at what examples we have or can build in the space, and what we might like to see.

Tonight at 8pm, open to all.
