Wow...here's the really impressive part of the article:

"It was too dangerous for the members of the public, firefighters and coastguard officers to pull him up so the Portland coastguard helicopter was scrambled."

I knew our local coast guard was impressive, but the fact that they can fly all the way to England within 30 minutes...now THAT's a stellar response time!
