Hey CPCers,

Just wanted to remind everyone that We will be Clearing the South launch on Yaquina Head this Saturday and could still use a few volunteers! If you plan to attend and haven't told me yet please rsvp asap so I can get a head count. I believe we are up to 6-8 people.

Tim (Park Manager), found out that BLM protocol dictates that volunteers are not to use chainsaws unless they have a government issued certification, so in light of this news he has gone ahead and hired out the tree falling and bucking work leaving us to haul it all up the hill an into the trailer. Sounds easy enough, but we flagged about 7-10 trees last week so there should be lots to haul! Knocking back the salal, grass, and shrubs is also going to provide us with lots to do so definitely come expecting work!  Plus,Tim authorized us to clear the north launch trail the same day if we have time. That should be a two man job.

If you plan to volunteer please meet us in the Yaquina Head Visitors Center parking lot at 10:00am. Tell the gate you are part of the volunteer clearing crew. Be sure to bring your own safety glasses, gloves, long sleeve shirts, thick pants, and boots. Tim will have some extras but we should all come prepared. I'd plan on bringing a lunch too.

You will have to sign a volunteer form which protects the BLM in the event you get hurt, but also provides you with workmans comp and whatnot.

Please bring pruners, pruning saws and other brush clearing equipement. We will be able to run weed wackers so bring 'em if you got 'em!

Thanks and hope to see you on Saturday!

Travis

Travis,

You will get an email from Kath Fuller who is our Volunteer Coordinator. She will get forms out to you for you to hand to the other volunteers and make sure they are signed prior to any work. Plan the first half hour on Saturday just going over safety and making sure agreements are signed and filled out properly. Then we can get you to work. Again, BLM will cut and limb the trees so it is a matter of hauling. You and volunteers can run brush hogs, etc, but safety PPE need to be worn. Let us know what you might need and we can be sure to have some basics ready – gloves, safety goggles/glasses. Make sure volunteers have long sleeve shirts – good sturdy boots and long pants.

The goal is to get the work done but for you to be safe too.

I appreciate you taking on this project and I look forward to seeing more flyers in the skies this year.

Thanks,

Saturday Forecast for Yaquina Head looks good, NW conditions.  So, maybe some flying is possible following the work effort.
