This season is the opposite of last when I was at Andy Jackson flight
park Aug. Sep. Oct. and flying often.
Saturday I worked a half day and missed out on good hang flying at Dry
Canyon. Over the back at local sites and I eventually went to Anapra
where the wind was 80 degrees cross. It was coming up the hill 40-80
degrees cross due to heating and I was able to launch and fly for 7
minutes in tricky conditions before side hill landing near the top.
Sunday I drove out to the Potrillo Mts for a hike and fly. The launch
is in a bowl and wind had looked cross and cycles were strong and punchy
so I hiked up above to check the real wind direction. It looked ok but
back at launch it was still a bit blustery so I hemmed and hawed for a
bit before finally laying out. I managed to get the wing inflated and
launched off the rocky and cactus covered ground. I made a few passes
but the sky was clouding over and I had to fly out and land near the
van. Remote place with no cell coverage. The drawn in highway 9 on the
photo is a tow site with the blessing of the State police and Border
Patrol, not a lot of traffic. photos from Sunday.

The launch looks formidable up close. Next time don't take such clear and close-up photos of the ground cover and it will make your launch easier. Nice write-up.
