This is a classic from Paul Murdoch who puts in a lot of time to keep
Woodrat open!

If you ever fly Woodrat - please do your part as described below.

This will be my crankiest post to date. And I've had some real
hissies. But I digress....

Each year, we analyze and over-analyze how to maintain good relations
with landowners. We debate ad nauseum what is required to maintain
access to the Woodrat LZ. We just finished the most exhaustive
conversation to date concerning how events might impact our long term
use of the Woodrat LZ.

Here is what the Hunter's have said:

Events are okay as-is.

"But please don't block the roads or the gate."

That is one thing they have asked for each and every time we inquire.

"Please don't block the roads or the gate."

We spend so much time analyzing what things might possibly be a
source of frustration to our hosts. And each year, they tell us
exactly what they'd like to see.

They say, "Please don't block the roads or the gate"

And each year, while we debate how our activities might impact the
ranch, we do exactly that; we block the road and the gate.

Today our club completely blocked road access while Tim, his family,
and another pilot-friendly landowner watched. Our club parked a car
directly in the middle of the @$%&! road. As club members loaded
wings, Tim's daughters had to drive off the road to pass. Then Tim's
friend Rod, who also allows pilots to land at his place, had to drive
his truck and trailer off the road in order to pass by the vehicle
that our club had parked in the middle of the road.

We spend so many hours pondering what might make the Hunter family
frustrated, and they tell us. Then we go right out and violate that
one rule.

GET. OFF. THE. ROAD.

Park so that you are completely off the pavement.

Don't park any part of your car in front of the gate. You don't know
what kind of trailer Tim is hauling in and out of the gate. Give him
plenty of space.

If you have a long vehicle, park parallel, not diagonally.

Don't use the pavement for a staging area. Don't lay your wing, or
your lunch on the road while you get ready.

Never, ever, stop in the middle of the road.

I was completely dumbfounded today. I know it is spring, we are
excited to fly. But consider how our actions spoke. Tim has asked
for just one thing consistently. Then, in front of Tim, his wife,
his kids, and another LZ owner, we blatantly ignore his most
consistent request.

Please help us ensure that no one - visitors, spectators, and for
crying out loud, club members, do not block the road.

So.

To summarize:

The Hunter's say, "Well, we are pretty satisfied with pilot
activities, but please don't block the road or the gate".

So we park our cars in the street and load our wings, while
pondering, "What things can we do to be polite and respectful guests?"

And as Tim's family drives around us through the mud, we wave and
think, "Gosh, they sure are nice."

Rant over.
