Hoover Ridge Flight Report

Well, the MM5 (GFS) formatt vs the MM5 (NAM) formatt won out today.  Soaring altitudes got to 4.9K ft. The MM5 (GFS) forecast was 4.5K -5K ft.   Cloud base was at least 6K ft. but no body could punch  through past 5K ft. to get there.

 

I had the priveledge of flying with Alan F. (now employeed), Luke D., and Mark S.  Mark and I was able to get to top of lift and help each other soar further north across some ridges before splitting up and taking different paths.

 

I got to practice quite a few of the mountain XC stategies/techniques discussed in the Tuesday CPC Meeting that was summarized from the Mentored Sun Valley Idaho Open Distance Nationals. 

 

Everyone eventually landed after 1.45 hours of flight, before the winds picked up (as forecasted).   

 

In summary, it was a great day of flying. Everyone had great launches and flights for the provided conditions.

 

I look forward to when the forecast of +7K ft. and light winds.

Note: Only Dave flew 1:45.  He launched first and landed last.  The rest of us had shorter but nice flights.  The smoke rolled in by late afternoon so we opted not to try second flights and had a beer at the lake instead.
