Subject: Flight report: Bingen 10-25-12

John Benedict and I launched around 2:00 PM along with a new pilot, Chris
from Portland.  Nice to get out in the sunshine after a week of mostly rain
in Portland.  Light west winds, sunshine and very weak thermals gave us
30-45 minute flights surfing at the point and catching those monster 100 fpm
thermals coming off the parking lot of the new building under construction
west of the inlet.

It's been a while since I have flown at Bingen. Lots of new construction
going on.  The grass field across from the park is now gravel and mostly
occupied by trailers and there seem to be lots more construction planned
from the work being done on the roads.  The attached picture shows some of
the changes.

Yikes, we didn't do a very good job of securing the LZ, did we?

The land next to the Bingen marina has been zoned as a business park for as
long as I remember.

The economic recovery seems to be well underway in Bingen. Still plenty of landing areas besides the park.

This new construction next to the lz will ruin the lz for landing
hangs on windy days and not make it fun for paragliders. It also takes
away options during your final. There was already plenty of turbulence
from the nearby buildings in certain conditions.
