A very good day. I will be at the lz at 11. However, I think launch
conditions will be good most of the day.

It was quite good, with cloudbase around 4700 ft at one point. Thank
you Rob!

I managed to snap a couple of photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/JHdeVilliers/SollieSmith6March2009#

4,700' so who flew to North Plains? Damm I am sorry I missed it. Looked
like clouds were low earlier what time did it jump up. Did any
convergence and onshore flow set up?

I launched at 13:43 (I had sunk out after ten minutes on my first
flight, while Jim, Douglas and others were skying out) and got to just
below base east of launch about 15 minutes later. The first photo was
taken at 14:15. By 14:30 base had dropped quite a bit over the valley
and around 15:00 we were soaring Sugar, occasionally making it back to
launch altitude.

The drop in cloudbase probably coincided with the sea breeze kicking
in. I didn't notice any convergence.

There was some convergence at launch earlier on.  I walked to the back of launch and there was a light NE breeze as forecast.
With full sun on the face you had consistent thermals coming up that overpowered the wind from behind.

My vario recorded 900 fpm up and 850 down on my second flight.  That's pretty active air imho.
