Winds above launch today were over the back and cross, making for a very rough climb-out. After watching this for a half hour or so, the organizers cancelled the task. Those of us who had already climbed out and were enjoying smooth and abundant lift had to decide -- descend back through it now, or go somewhere. Only a few stuck with the latter plan and they are getting home on their own nickel. The rest of us eventually got down and found landing conditions that varied from very mellow to flying-backwards gusts. All landed OK as far as I know, though one pilot fell from a long way above launch mostly in stall, never threw a reserve and instead reinflated very near terrain. As for Lefty's, it's a fund-raiser for the local club so I'll be there. The smoke is back with abundance this afternoon/evening, brought from the Trinity fire by today's west winds.
