Tom Huff and I will be flying Lakeview Wed-Sat. The forecast looks promising for tomorrow and we hope to arrive at Black Cap around 1 pm.

What happens if you show up at launch without your vario and flight
suit, just shorts and a t-shirt and a wristwatch-GPS? Well if you're
at Black Cap for the 4th of July fly-in there's a good chance you're
going to get high and go far. That's what happened to me this
afternoon at Black Cap -- there wasn't time for me to go back down the
hill to get the missing items so I launched at 2:00 and an hour later
I was shivering at 13,200' on my way to Plush. It was a 28 mile flight
with climb rates mostly in the 500-800 ft/min range and a southwest
wind at altitude most of the way. At Plush the wind switched to
northwest which helped me make up my mind to land there -- well that
and the fact that I wanted to come down and warm up.

Turnout for the Lakeview fly-in is good this year. From Bend there's Tim, John, Wade, Josh, Mike, Bill, Kelli, Tina and more. From Portland there's John, Gail, Dan, Jim, Rob, Kathy, Ray, and more. Plus I met a number of pilots from Arizona, Nevada, California, Washington, and BC.
Lakeview is greener than usual due to the wet spring, and as a result the thermals seemed more moderate than in drier years. There's still plenty of lift though -- Tina and I had to leave for home by 1:00 pm today but that gave Tina enough time for a short cross-country flight north along 395, and as I was driving out of Lakeview to retrieve her there were more pilots getting high.

The god flying continues. Just islolated thunderstorms to keep away from. Doug, Tom, Doug J, and I flew black cap yesterday. Skunked at Abert for glass off on the third but managed to get back to Black cap in time to fly 5 miles north. Today we have to decide on Black cap or Sugar Hill.
25 miles XC so far for me. Well out of the $100 first place prize. Fireworks tonight at the fairgrounds.
