Hey All..

This might be crazy, but I've been trying to articulate the benefits of coworking to folks that have spent very little to no time at all in a coworking community. I keep referencing the idea of "Creative Collisions" in my conversations and thought it would make sense to reach out to the community.

There's always going be the natural connections in a shared workspace. A small business owner can immediately find someone to help them with their dire need for a new website, without even leaving their workplace. That's amazing. But, to me the real magic is when folks meet and it sparks an idea, a business, a new thing... something that never would of happened.

I'd love to hear your stories born out of this collision whether it be simply an idea, thought, product, business or movement. Anybody have any good stories?

Happy Monday!
Sam

Hi Sam!

A hard quest :). I have the same all the time - people don't seem to get it - I guess it is one of these things you only understand through practice. A lot of people don't seem to see any benefits other than having an ergonomic chair and a good internet connection for the first weeks.

For inspiration I suggest you take a look at the Coworker's Stories page in the Coworking Wiki. It's a collection of blog posts written by coworkers about their experiences in coworking spaces. Of course if you know of any (i.e. by coworkers at the Coop) feel free to add them there. Actually - please add them there!

Cheers,

Cristina Santamarina

Alex has been trying to collect stories and I'm not sure if the Wiki page is his something he started or not. There is GoodCoworking.com that might have some testimonials. They ask people to answer the question 'Why do you love coworking.'

Thanks Craig & Cristina, I will check both of these out. The wiki seems promising!

When I am explaining coworking to those around me, I paint the familiar picture: If you have ever been working in a coffee shop and look up and wonder what the other people are working on, you might be interested in coworking. If you have ever wanted to get up and say hi to someone to find out what they are doing (maybe actually have done so), but can't because of the barrier of talking to strangers in public, then coworking is definitely for you. You can be sure anyone else at the coworking spot is there for similar reasons.

They seem to get it after that.

Obviously personal anecdotes would be helpful too.

Hi Sam,

I suggest you have a look at The Serendipity Machine, a case study by Dr Sebastian Olma.
We organised a workshop and lecture with him at Mutinerie a few days ago. Here are a feed back article by Seb Olma and a few pictures.
We also set up the Serendipity Shot an immersive program for organisation's leaders. Unfortunately, we were not able to make it this time. Feel free to use the materials.
You can also have a look at this article from the HBR.

Thank you Antoine,

It's been a long long time since we last had any exchange. I'll have a look with regards to what you've suggested via your links and will give you some feedback.
Hope everything is fine for all of you! I do really miss you guys :-))

Take good care

Sam
