Hi Nathan,
I'm really close to opening a space in Carrboro, NC. Its called
Carrboro Coworking.
www.carrrborocoworking.com
The first thing I did was create a online survey. (I used
SurveyGizmo.) Then a BASIC website w/a link to the survey. Then I
created postcards with a interior design vision. Plus I set up a
google group to keep people informed. Finally I went to a lot of local
tech meetups. Had coffee with hundreds of people. While I was taking
with people I asked them to take the online survey. Lots of those
events I sponsored to. Like BarCamp RDU. Oh yeah and I blogged about
coworking and asked my blogger friends to do the same.
To this day the info from the survey guides my priorities. I found out
that there are three things most important to the folks I polled. Fast
internet (WiFi), comfortable working environment, and Coffee. No big
shock there. But good to know. Its my service mantra.
We started a website to promote events in North Carolina. Its called
Social Carolina.
www.socialcarolina.org. There have been some
Charlotte events on this google calendar. Also check out
http://cltblog.com.
Host events. Promote them. Networking with folks and building
community is key to coworking.
Here are the NC folks I found on the Coworking Wiki. <-- there is A
LOT of good info there about starting a coworking space
