I think one of the exciting possibilities for Coworking is exchanges. Perhaps, someone has given some thought to an exchange site whereby not only the desk at the space could be exchanged but the coworker's residence. We have started a coworking space (the 3rdRail Society) in a beautiful city, 1.5 hours outside of Toronto. Stratford is known for its Shakespearean theatre. Any thoughts?

I like the idea, for what it's worth. The topic's already come up a couple of times with my fellow coworkers in conversation since your post. But no clear idea how it might play out successfully in practice. And no desire (or ability) to try to develop the platform myself.

I love the idea!  Christoph from Betahause and I talked about doing this before but never worked out the details.  I think it could be as easy as using the coworking wiki rather then building a new platform.

People is talking a lot about this in Spain too.
Coworkers want to do some exchange betwwen countries.
But it have to be place to work+place to live together.
theres is going to be a big exchange between Betahaus(berlin) and Utopicus (madrid) 15-30 September.
Around 10 coworkers form utopicus are moving to berlin for 15 days (place to live and place to work)
Sounds great

I am ready to take curation of this on through the wiki, as part of my current, er, portfolio.

It will cause something of a sea change in the culture (if you like) of the current wiki, it seems to me:  at some point as the program matures, some form of standard agreement will need to be made.  If not about the terms of the actual exchange, certainly about what people can expect from the exchange.  And I am an advocate of being proactive about thing you can see coming.

One of the other things that interests me also, as I have talked to several of you about, is the possibility of, not just a space exchange, but of a service exchange between members of the many and sundry coworking spaces.  I think I should avoid diluting this thread with that, but it certainly is percolating and you may expect to hear from me on it soon.

I, kind of selfishly, would like to take this exchange idea in a bit of a different direction -- coworking space owner exchange.

I would love to swap spaces with another coworking owner in a different city for a week or so. It would be a great learning experience for space owners to see how other communities are built and operate while providing the space owner the opportunity to visit another city knowing their own community is being watched over by another awesome person. What an amazing opportunity this could be.

I've would love to check out the spaces in Europe or Australia or other regions of the US. So to get this thing going, if anyone wants to swap spots and learn about Creative Density in Denver let me know.

Hi, Craig,

I don't see that as a hugely different direction, seems to me it would fit right in there.  At least, the way I am thinking of it at this moment.  Maybe we should have a separate section for this idea though:  we could call it either "Busman's Holiday" or "Continuing Coworking Education". Depends on how you want to look at it.  :-)
