Hey guys,

Thanks to all of you who came out to the meeting at Stardust
yesterday, I feel like we were really able to talk through a great
deal of material, sum up with a bunch of ideas, questions, and
concerns for the space.

I'm posting my notes here on the list, so that there can me more
discussion, and I'm hoping Fredda will be able to answer some of our
questions as well.

------

As far as prices go, people are happy with:

- $250 / month
- $175 for 3 days a week

However, we'd like to follow the lead of indy hall and call these
"Memberships". (See here for more info:
http://www.indyhall.org/pricing/). As they've done:

- $25 a day for non-members

- $25/month to join as a member (this gets you 1 free day). $15 each
additional day for members.

- If you sign up for a membership, you will need to use Paypal
recurring subscriptions. So even the $25/month one day a month
membership, you have to sign up for this as a recurring subscription
on PayPal to get it.

- Are $250 level members going to get a permanent desk space if they
want it (like other co-working spaces)?

- M-F 8 AM - 8 PM are the hours right?

- Who is going to be opening the door at 8 AM, and locking the door at 8 PM?

- If a users group is meeting at 7 PM (as most do) and running until
9 PM, is this going to be okay?

- The front door of the building locks at 6 PM, so how will people
get up to the space after 6?

- The elevator needs a keycard to get up after 6 PM, so how will
people get up the elevator?

- If you're running a user group at 7 PM, how are people going to get
up into the building?

- Are any of the people in the space going to have a key? If a full
time member wanted a key, could they get one with an additional
deposit?

- Parking downtown can be purchased $50 / month right?

- We will need an all in one printer the space with a working "copy /
fax / scanner". This is probably important to be up and functioning
by Day 1. Needs to have a sign of some sort "Please use responsibly,
if you need to print more then X pages a day, then please donate a
little cash for ink/paper"

- There should be a mini-fridge for people to use, but should be
limited to just drinks. No food allowed. Maybe a sign on the outside
with "use at your own risk"

- The conference room should be schedulable through a google
calendar. No need for something fancy, a google calendar should be
just fine.

- If there is any way we could move the conference room closer to the
shared space itself, that'd be great. I don't know if this is doable
though.

- There doesn't need to be someone sitting at the front desk that
checks people in and takes money. No one likes the idea of having
someone policing the space. However, there should be something like a
"sign in sheet". A sign in sheet serves a few purposes:

1. Allows you to quickly see how many people are working inside the
space on a given day.
2. Allows you to see who is present.
3. Keeps people somewhat accountable, so they don't take advantage the space.
4. If something gets stolen or broken, we'll have a list of everyone
who was present.

- There should be an IRC or Campfire channel so people can hangout.

- There should be a small set of rules, such as:

"If you're using the shared space and you want to leave stuff (like
pencils, pens, or cheap electronics) it's at your own risk. If we run
out of space, and you're not present, your stuff may be nicely moved."

- We like the idea of only charging $50 the month of November, so
people can try the space for cheap. However, after November comes
December, and people may be hesitant to subscribe at the end of the
year. Do we need another "Package" deal for December? or should we
just jump right in?

Hey guys,
I am sorry it took me so long to get back to you with your questions
but I got really sick last week and this week I was out of town taking
care of some personal issues.
Here are the answers in blue. Please keep them coming and as always
ideas, and suggestions are welcome!
As far as prices go, people are happy with:
- $250 / month
- $175 for 3 days a week
However, we'd like to follow the lead of Indy Hall and call these
"Memberships". (See here for more info:
http://www.indyhall.org/pricing/). As they've done:
- $25 a day for non-members
- $25/month to join as a member (this gets you 1 free day). $15 each

recurring subscriptions. So even the $25/month one day a month
membership, you have to sign up for this as a recurring subscription
on PayPal to get it.
I am working on the PayPal Account but do not let the PayPal account
to stop you from signing up. We take checks as well. If you want to
sign up now, please let me know and we can set up an appointment.
- Are $250 level members going to get a permanent desk space if they
want it (like other co-working spaces)?
Yes, full time members can get a permanent desk if they want to.
- M-F 8 AM - 8 PM are the hours right?
Yes, to start it is from 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday
- Who is going to be opening the door at 8 AM, and locking the door at
8 PM?
The building is open at 8 am and we are going to give all members an
access card to be able to come in and leave the building after 6 pm.
- If a users group is meeting at 7 PM (as most do) and running until
9 PM, is this going to be okay?
Yes, that is ok. The group meetings can stay even until 10 pm. The
leader of the group meeting will be responsible for opening and
closing the place after the meeting and also for picking up the place
after the meetings so that by 8 am the next day, the place is clean.
- The front door of the building locks at 6 PM, so how will people
get up to the space after 6?
We will give the members access cards.
- The elevator needs a keycard to get up after 6 PM, so how will
people get up the elevator?
Yes, the members will have the access card for the elevator as well.
- If you're running a user group at 7 PM, how are people going to get
up into the building?
The user group leader will be responsible to open and close the
building for the attendees.
- Are any of the people in the space going to have a key? If a full
time member wanted a key, could they get one with an additional
deposit?
Yes, that will be possible. A deposit is a great idea!
- Parking downtown can be purchased $50 / month right?
Yes, it is $50 a month.
- We will need an all in one printer the space with a working "copy /
fax / scanner". This is probably important to be up and functioning
by Day 1. Needs to have a sign of some sort "Please use responsibly,
if you need to print more then X pages a day, then please donate a
little cash for ink/paper"
Yes, from day one we will have a printer, copier, fax and scanner all
in one machine.
We hope members do not abuse the system and donations are important to
keep the membership price low.

We need to create a code of ethics. I would appreciate everyone help
to create this as you know better the things you want and you don’t
want from other coworkers.
Please email me all those rules and things that are important to you.
I will then create a document and place it on the website and I will
give a copy to each new member once they sign up.
- There should be a mini-fridge for people to use, but should be
limited to just drinks. No food allowed. Maybe a sign on the
outside
with "use at your own risk"
Yes we will have a mini fridge.
The conference room should be schedulable through a google
calendar. No need for something fancy, a google calendar should be
just fine.
That sounds good. How do you suggest we do that? Should we create an
open account that everyone can access? Please advice.
- If there is any way we could move the conference room closer to the
shared space itself, that'd be great. I don't know if this is doable
though.
Yes, we will move it to a closer suite.
- There doesn't need to be someone sitting at the front desk that
checks people in and takes money. No one likes the idea of having
someone policing the space. However, there should be something like
a
"sign in sheet". A sign in sheet serves a few purposes:
1. Allows you to quickly see how many people are working inside the
space on a given day.
2. Allows you to see who is present.
3. Keeps people somewhat accountable, so they don't take advantage the
space.
4. If something gets stolen or broken, we'll have a list of everyone
who was present.
That is a great idea. We will have a sign up sheet.
- There should be an IRC or Campfire channel so people can hangout.
I am sorry about my ignorance…but what is that?
- There should be a small set of rules, such as:
"If you're using the shared space and you want to leave stuff
(like
pencils, pens, or cheap electronics) it's at your own risk. If we
run
out of space, and you're not present, your stuff may be nicely
moved."
I will add this to the Code of Ethics along with the rest of the
things you all can come up with, including printing and donations.
We like the idea of only charging $50 the month of November, so
people can try the space for cheap. However, after November comes
December, and people may be hesitant to subscribe at the end of the
year. Do we need another "Package" deal for December? or should we
just jump right in?

I have been thinking about this and I think we should wait to see what
the response of the community is. If we see a great amount of people
are staying in Orlando for the Holidays maybe we start with regular
rates…if there is only a few willing to work from CoLab, we will give
them a break. What do you think?

On a different note, I also want to tell you that I have a few people
inquiring about using the conference room by the hour. They are
willing to pay for the $25 membership but instead of having just the
option of paying $15 for an additional day, they want to have the
option of paying $25 for an hour of conference room.

I think we should allow this as we have some entrepreneurs and
freelancers who sometime will need not only access to do coworking but
also just to meet with their clients. Also, anything that can generate
financial help to maintain CoLab at a lower cost should be welcome.

Also, we need to have an open mind and be able to help and support all
members of the community to have access to the resources they need.
Don’t you think?

Fredda,

What about those of us who can't see answers in blue? I am going to
try reading this in my webmail interface, but right now I can't tell
Gregg's notes from the answers.

Peace,
