Hey folks,

As we start to gauge interest here in the community, I think it's
important to get a conversation underway about pricing.

As you may know, I've talked extensively with Alex Hillman at Indy
Hall in Philadelphia about their experience, and I believe that their
pricing model is quite strong. So strong, in fact, I've ripped it off
and propose that we adopt essentially the same model for our use. You
can view their pricing page here: http://www.indyhall.org/pricing/

I'd like you to do two things: 1) review it and share your thoughts;
is there an another angle that we should consider?, 2) send me your
feedback regarding your commitment level.

We expect to start with something like 14-15 seats and an early design
decision we need to make is the mix between full time and part time
desks. So, getting your feedback now will be helpful.

To see the proposed pricing model, click on
http://groups.google.com/group/coworking-baltimore/web/beehive-baltimore-proposed-membership-pricing?hl=en
- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

Thanks for your help -- again I'm quite amazed at how quickly this is
moving and how much interest we're seeing in the community.

Also, Beehive Baltimore is on Twitter now at @bhivebmore!

Regards,
Dave

Hey, Dave -

Two questions:
1) Will there be an opportunity to check out the space before December 5?
2) Would it make sense to offer an intermediate, 1-day-a-week or
4-days-a-month package?

I remain pretty enthusiastic about this, though the Canton space may be
not as convenient to me as it is to some other folks. But maybe that's
because I'm just lazy. Details about the space-- parking, bike
parking/storage, conference room seating --- would be helpful. I'll be
up for at least a charter basic membership, but I don't think I can
commit to the full Worker Bee rate.

That all looks good to me. I definitely want the early membership,
Charter WORKER BEE. How do we sign up?

Do you have more information on the location?
The charter members require 6 month, but what are the minimum
commitments for the different levels? Is the monthly Resident a month
to month commitment?
Can the plans be converted, like the visitor? I would like the worker
bee, but if i want to upgrade to resident, will I have to wait until
space opens up?

One additional idea on passes:
A 5 or 10 day pass, required to be used in a certain time frame, say 3
months. This is handy if you have a project or two and you know
you'll need a block of days. They do this at my yoga studio and it's
pretty popular. Allows a bit of flexibility, but still gives a time
frame for usage

Otherwise, I think it's going to do great... There is a ton of
potential with this, so I definitely want to get in early!

Sounds good to me. I am interested in Beehive Resident Charter
Member. That said I would be interested in finding more out about the
space, parking and other logistical items.

I think following in the footsteps of Indy Hall is an excellent idea.
It seems like it's been very successful for Alex and everyone
involved. My only concerns with our breakdown are the actual figures
and the impact they may have on prospective 'bees'.

I think it might be a good idea to offer some lower fees than that of
Philadelphia. Philly had a coworking/jelly community long before Indy
Hall was established which made the membership fees more justifiable.
Our community is still pretty loose and we want it to be as open and
inviting as possible. If I was opening up a brand new coffee shop, I
don't know if it would be a good idea to use the same prices as
Starbucks. I would want to try and do everything possible to build
the community first. Just curious, do we know roughly what the
monthly cost will be to fund the operation?

Everything else looks great. I'm all for the tiered membership
structure. You can definitely count me in as a Beehive Resident
Charter Member.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Based on what I am hearing it
seems like we are on the right general track; we're ingesting the
feedback and will propose some adjustments. Stay tuned; we can
discuss on Tuesday also.

I'm really not able to share firm details in writing about prospective
space at this time, but I'd be happy to chat with anyone in person.
Stop by on Tuesday at Bluehouse and I'll update you on where things
stand.

Our goal is to try to get the primary details regarding space ironed
out in the coming week, and we'll be able to let you know about more
of the logistical details shortly.

Anyway, thanks again for your enthusiastic support. Please continue
to spread the word about the logo contest, and let me know one-on-one
if I can answer any specific questions for you.

I'm really excited about where this is heading! We have a bright
future ahead of us here in Baltimore...

Best,
Dave

Hi Dave,

I agree with a couple of the earlier replies that there may be room
for something between 1/month and 3/week. I also like the suggestion
about a "pack" of days per month (or per 90 day cycle) in a "use-'em
or lose-'em" scenario. For example, 3 days/mo for $50, or 10 days/3
months for $125 (in packs).

The prices for worker bee and beehive resident seem a little high for
Baltimore. We're not Phili and we're definitely not New York. Space is
pretty cheap here. Though it depends on the complete overhead of
course.

Dan -- The proposed rates are the same as at IndyHall, and from
talking with them, they would argue that their community was in
roughly the same shape as ours when they started. As for New York,
our rates are half or less than anything there.

While the pricing isn't firm yet, part of what we need to achieve here
is sustainability, and we need to be sure we can cover not only basic
rent costs, but also account for other incidentals like insurance,
events, furniture, and other real-world costs. And as of this time,
it appears that we will open full or close to full at the proposed
rate structure.

Stay tuned; I'd like to get the pricing finalized by Friday, and
expect that we will extend the charter membership signup opportunity
til the 19th, so we can get people into the facility beforehand.

I have a hunch that additional pricing options will garner more subscriptions.

Until I can be shown that it's not a good idea, I'm a proponent of additional pricing options such as:
(all terms 'use or lose', add'l $15 day passes available, exact #days may need tweaking):

$70/mo    3 days/mo
$100/mo  8 days/mo
$125/qtr   12 days/qtr

Cheers!
