Greetings fellow racers:
This past Saturday the permanent race committee, under the leadership of chairman Mark Hardenbergh, met to review the sailing instructions for the upcoming season. The committee acted to update several sections of the instructions.
Those changes have been posted on our website at www.clsa.us, and are summarized in this communication to you. On line you can easily see the changes, as they have been highlighted in yellow.
We encourage you to look at the instructions and review them in their entirety – this is the guiding document for our racing activities on each Sunday afternoon and Holiday regattas for this season. Here is a link to the complete document: Clsa sailing instructions
A summary of the changes is as follows:
Section 4: Changes in Sailing Instructions. Changes made in the permanent sailing instructions shall be posted online on the club website 7 days in advance of the effective date. Notices on the white board are not required. (These changes were posted online on Saturday, April 14. They will take effect on Sunday, April 22, 2012)
Section 6.4: In addition to the sighting of lightning, lightning detected electronically within 9 miles of the lake shall be sufficient grounds for the PRO to abandon races. Please note that it is always the skipper’s decision as to whether to continue racing or to abandon.
Section 7.2: Holiday Series Races. The second day of racing on Holiday series shall be as published on the CLSA schedule.
Section 11.1: Order of start. The new order of start for CLSA club races will be:
1st Thistle
2nd Highlander and Lightning
3rd MC Scow
4th Snipe
5th Flying Scot
6th Laser, Board boats, Handicap fleet
Section 11.4: If there are fewer than three starters for any fleet start in the second race, the sequence may be advanced or starts may be combined at the discretion of the PRO. This changes the instruction from last year, and allows for combination of starts only in the second race.
Section 11.6: After a starting sequence has begun, boats shall remain at least 20 yards from the starting line until their warning signal is made. {Race committee will enforce this rule and may disqualify boats who violate the rule}. For boats which have started and rounded the first mark, the starting line is closed until all fleets have started. {Race committees will endeavor to set the start line and leeward mark such that races rounding the leeward mark do not interfere with an active starting sequence.}
Section 13: General Recall: {This is not a change, but a reminder of existing language} In the event of a general recall, the recalled fleet’s re-start is moved to the end of the starting order.
Section 18: Protests: There are two new items in this section and a subsequent renumbering of the existing sections. The new items are: Boats completing penalty turns during a race shall notify the Race Committee at their finish, and In case of serious damage or injury there shall be a protest committee hearing following the race.
There is also an addendum added pertaining to the Hornich Cup: In the event the fleet champion from the previous season is unable to participate, the runner-up in that same fleet from the previous year may participate providing they qualified in accordance with the CLSA season qualification rules.
