We need suggestions for CAMTA tabling opportunities. Corvallis Saturday Market is well underway, but where else?
If you have a suggestion of an event at which we should have a presence, either tabling or just working the crowd with petitions and fliers, please give us some information:
-- Name of the Event
-- Where/When? (recurring?)
-- Do we need permission or are there location or time restrictions? If you can get permission for us, that would be amazing, but we need the following...
-- Contact info for the person responsible for the event (permission to table).
-- If it's not obvious, why should we be covering that event?
-- How should we contact you for more details?
Thanks,
The Campaign & Publicity Committee

Hour Traders has a Local Folk Festival June 24, 1:00-10:00 p.m. at Fireworks. CAMTA tabled at Hour Traders' Winter Gathering, but without much impact if I recall correctly. If June 24 seems like a worthwhile event for tabling, I will check into what the Hour Traders organizers think about that.

Hopefully, Benton Co. Rights Coalition (GMO Free Benton Co.) will be putting on a Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) 3 day workshop the last week of June-first week of July.  During the Public Presentation on the first day, I would also like to give time to CAMTA to do a short (10 min?) presentation, as well as table (passive) throughout the event.  I am also trying to work in a community potluck in there somewhere, and you could certainly do active tabling there.   I will get details to you as soon as things firm up.

We will also be doing a CELDF Democracy School for 20 preselected activists for our Rights Coalition on October 5th & 6th.  CAMTA will be able to do passive tabling here as well.  If there is anyone within CAMTA that has attended a CELDF related workshop in the past, and wants to commit to action in the BC Rights Coalition, CAMTA may want to actively sponsor that person.  Because this event is going to cost us about $3,500, we are figuring that sponsorships will be in the $175 to $200 range.  Again, I will keep you posted as things unfold.

I would also check the Co-op June Thymes event calendar (AND check with the editor for anything else they may know about for the future). There may be some more ideas there for tabling.

Oward!

It is my understanding the Hour Exchange would like us to be members if we are to table. I tabled for VFP at the Winter Gathering with limited success due to location of the table.
The Folk Festival should be much better. It would be great if you could check if we need some sort of membership (as an organization) to table there.
Thanks. I'll put it on the calendar though. I think we should try for 2 shifts: 1-3 and 3-5.

Good ideas, Dana. We should probably table at all the GMO or CELDF events, despite our very slight philosophical differences on strategy.
Please keep us posted in dates.
Thanks,
Bart
PS: Sorry if this posts twice. Google is acting weird.

Bart, I don't think we have ANY philosophical differences AT ALL.  Paul Cienfuegos may have a problem, but GMO Free and CELDF certainly do not.  As a matter of fact, almost all of the CELDF groups are actively working with and mutually supporting their local Occupy and MTAs.  All of our strategies are synergistic and are working toward the same goals.

And I will keep you all posted!

And there is always the Benton County Fair to reach a broad audience.
What does that take? Would we be able to share a table with VFW? or the
Dems? or somebody else?

The Fair is a great suggestion.
I'm not sure VFP and Alt2War are doing their peace booth this year. We're still noodling that.
And someone else will have to address the Dems, but I'm doubtful they will permit it. They seem to fill their table (and table staff time) with selling buttons, handing out Dem material and doing voter registration...but it's worth an ask. Maybe Rachel could; they're pretty active with them.
We could actually table just outside the entrances. I've seen people do that. But it can be very hot and dusty. I'm not in favor of that option.

We are now signed up for a tabling spot at the Hour Traders' June 24 Folk Festival. The coordinator, Christina Calkins, informed me that set up time is noon on that day, and that requesting a spot and showing up are all that is required so far.

Bart, do you have from Rachel the contact list of everybody who showed up
at that original meeting or who has expressed interest? I really want to
engage people from that list in tabling. I think some of them would
surface if we have something concrete for them to do.

For example: I know Joyce Spain and know that she attended the early
meetings. Yesterday I asked if she would table with me and she said she
would.

And thanks for putting together the great tabling set up!

Would it be possible to put together a duplicate of the signs etc. so
potentially we could sometimes be two places at once? I think we have a
roll up camping table somewhere around here that we could loan to the
cause.

What about tabling at the public library? I'm sure we can't inside but I
know in the past a group that I was part of that was collecting signatures
stood outside, I think without any problems.

These are all good ideas, Jean.
I think Rachel must still have that original contact list. I don't.
And a duplicate table setup is definitely needed. I'll start working on that.
The library is a good place, I agree. Are we allowed to set up a table on the sidewalk? I think we need a table or we end up juggling all the handouts.

From the Pacific Green Party listserve comes this notice: "Creating a Safer, Greener, Healthier Neighborhood and Community" Wednesday, June 13, 6:30 at the Corvallis-Benton County Library. Sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, it offers a chance for community networking as well as speakers and information on the topic. More information at www.sustainablecorvallis.org.

The Greens might be interested in sharing a table.  We haven't found the Fair terribly productive; better for VFP, I think.  The more groups involved, the better.  Manning a table for 3 days is a challenge; need a lot of people.

Table anything the Spring Creek Project presents.

Project willing, of course, though I believe they will be and would be a great activist pool.

Good idea. They have good events that would dovetail nicely with our effort. Unfortunately, according to their website, they only have two more events before the election this fall. But we'll keep an eye out for additions to their calendar.

John Myers had a good idea last night...that we table somewhere around the Red, White and Blues Festival (on July 4th?). I'm checking out the date and times and will post the shifts on the tabling schedule when I can.

Hi Bart,
Sorry I haven't been in touch 'til now -- I've been down for a while
with some pretty powerful illness. I believe that I can make my 11-1/
sat.mkt. tomorrow morning, though, and will plan to bring my bike
trailer for transport of the tabling set-up, unless you've arranged
for this already. Please reply if possible.
Thanks!
