I am having difficulty setting the margins to anything other than 1" or
"minimum"
using the page setup in WP9. For example, if I try to insert a left margin
number
it will be changed back to 1". If I try to use the tiny up/down arrows I can
temporarily get 0.9" or 1.1". If I use the mouse to move the margins on the
page, they will be moved back to 1". I am using an HP 6L printer.

I have never had margin problems with any earlier version of WP.

I am using the latest build in Service Pack 3.

Any Suggestions?

Update your printer driver from the HP website.
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/lj6l_swen.html

I would strongly suggest trying the beta "drivers" as opposed to the
released "printing system".

Carl,

This is a problem with the HP printer drivers. You are most probably using a
"host" driver. Windows 98 is said not even to support those drivers. I would
suggest you download the PCL driver for your printer.

By way of explanation, the host driver uses your computer memory and the PCL
driver relies on the printer memory. If you use the PCL driver you will have
to make some changes in the set up for it under the properties. You will
have to go the the print quality and choose the manual setting. After you do
that you will have to click the setting button and change the graphics
printing to hp-gl2. That will speed up the printing process using the PCL
driver.

Carl,

A work around exists for this problem without going to the PCL driver
(by the way, the host based driver does work in Windows 98). You have
to enter the margin settings as fractions rather than decimals. If you
want a .35" margin, enter 35/100 instead of .35. Even if you want a 2"
margin you will have to enter 2/1. The only pain is that if you ever go
to the print margin dialog again, it will automatically set your left
margin back to 1" so that you have to reset it again. The host based
driver has been much maligned on this newsgroup, but the fact is that
it's faster than the PCL driver, doesn't require you to go out and buy
more printer memory, and has some nice extras that the PCL driver
doesn't have. Furthermore, it's hard to conceive of the problem being
with the host based driver when it works fine with Presentations 9 and
Quattro Pro 9, to say nothing of every other program we use.

This issue comes up periodically on this newsgroup, but Corel
evidentally doesn't consider it their problem.

Carl,

In addition to the other suggestions, try entering 3/4 instead of 0.75, for
example, in the margin dialog.

Thanks for the kind suggestions. I'll give it a try.

It is curious that the existing driver worked just fine in WP8 and
everything else.

Due to concerns over viruses & such, as well as the extra download cost to
international participants of the newsgroups, we don't allow any
attachments like this. Therefore your message has been removed from the
group, with just the text posted to keep the thread intact.

However, to be able to address your problem, you will need to provide us
with much more information, such as what printer you have, what version of
WPO2000 (from Help/About within the program), what version of Windows, and
anything else relevant to the problem. Please remember that everything we
know about your system must come from you; the more detail you provide
about the problem & your configuration, the more specific and effective
will be the help you get.

Thanks for your cooperation in this.

Sorry, I also just noticed that your original post was done as a reply to
someone else's post on a completely different topic; please re-post by
starting a new thread, not as a reply.

In Netscape, this means using File/New Message instead of Reply to Group
when you post your problem.

That will help someone realize that you are posting something that has not
been reviewed before & is your own issue.

Thanks. (Don't forget, when you re-post, to include much more details
about your problem & configuration.)
