Have you tried the impressionism clone tool?
I'm not sure what you want as an end result, though.
Love your work! :-)

I just reset my PhotoPaint 9 and my Impressionism brush is still the same. The JPG
that I sent was made by making the sample in PP 7 and pasting it in PP 9 as a new
object. Then I did the same with the sample in PP 9. I saved that file and made a JPG
out of it. I really don't understand what you mean by making a Clone. I need the whole
Impressionism tool from PP 7. Can you walk me through it?

I haven't used PP7 for a couple of years now so don't remember specifics,
but it looks like the method of laying down color has changed. In PP9 you
can modify the settings and brush nib but you won't be able to get exactly
the same effect in this case that you got in PP7.
From your attachment it looks like you could get parallel strokes of
different colors. In PP9 you will get a different color per dab. Your dabs
can be spaced and spread out but they won't paint in a sustained manner
meaning that as you move your brush, more dabs are laid down rather than
just painting in a sustained stroke.
If, however, this is what you want...different dabs of color laid down. Then
simply test different nibs and adjust the Dab Attributes and Nib Properties
from the Brushes docker until you see something you want to use.
BTW...I love your artwork.

Hi Ruth,
Are you sure you are selecting the Impressionism Clone Tool?
I just tried it and it looks like your PP 7 attachment.
If so, you might want to hold down F8 while starting PP 9

Ruth,
Send Foster D. Coburn some SNOW! If you can not find any, I have some
here in my freezer from his last trip to Corel Canada. ;-)
I was not sure what you were creating, and
thought you might be interested in the impressionism clone tool.
Do I have to remove my capture shot? <g>
Best regards,
I think all the painting stuff was changed in version 8. Only because I find
verions 9's painting to be pretty much the same as version 8. I honestly
don't remember painting in version 7...I don't think I had it long enough
before 8 came out.

Hi Ruth,
Excellent idea! Actually I was thinking along those lines myself.
Now I'll have to install Photo-Paint 7, 'cause I can't remember
what it looked like. Give me a little time and I'll get back to you. . . :-)

I'm going to try, but I'll have to reinstall PP 7 to
see what the melee looked liked. Perhaps I can use the PP 7
brush in PP 9!? <g>
I Paint with the Alchemy Tool, however.

I'm afraid Ruth's Impressionist brush is severely broken in PP9.

NO!

I tried for a long time to recreate what you had in PP7, but as I mentioned
earlier, the way Photopaint 9 paints is totally different and the exact same
thing can't be duplicated.
BTW...you *can* play around with nibs and settings and get some interesting
brushes though.

Do you know how Ruth might fix her Impressionism Strokes in PP 9?
This screen shot Ruth displayed is not one I can duplicate here.
Looks like she used a Pointillism Stroke. . .
I will remove my Corel Capture Shot posted below, at the end of the day.

Hi Ruth,
WOW! I am truly confused. :))
Where did you get the Impressionism brush? I used the Impressionism
Clone with the default brush settings and a big glob of paint on another
background I call my palette.
No laughing, Debbie Cook. <BG>
I know there are some factory default brushes with numbers on them.
Sometimes I use them. I don't know the names of them, though.
Then to confuse myself more, I know there is an Impressionist Filter
in PP 7, 8 and 9. <g>
If you can point me to the Brush you are talking about in PP 7,
I'll be the better for it. <grin>
=============INFO============================
The Impressionist filter gives your image the look of an impressionist
painting by converting your image to dabs of solid color.
The higher the values you determine with the
Horizontal and Vertical sliders, the greater the
blurring of the original image
Clone tool
PP7
Found on the Toolbox and the Clone Tools toolbar.
Use to duplicate part of an image and apply it to
another part of the image or to another image altogether.
The Property Bar and Tool Settings Roll-Up provide specialized
cloning brushes that create a duplicate in the pointillist style (dots)
and impressionist style (lines).
You can achieve different effects by customizing the brush
you use to apply the effect.
=============INFO============================
I probably wouldn't be so darned confused if I painted with
brushes more often. This is not one of my strengths. . .
Again, below is capture shots from PP 9. . .
Will you help me better understand? :-)

Thank you, Cricket,
Now I remember that sucker, I used to use the Op Art brush in PP 7. .
The Impressionism Brush seems to be broken in PP 9.
_Anybody have a workaround for Ruth from PP 9?
I'm getting an education here, and it's for FREE.

Hi Ruth,
I think it's broken badly, very badly. . .
I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure out why. . .
I found the .msk and .nib, and even changed the Artistic Brush .ini
to PP 7's. . . No dice. . . The .nib is Okay but I suspect like PP 8
it's somewhere in the total PP9 configuration. I have the brush settings, but
I don't know if I can create a mask to match. Even if I could, I
don't think it would work.
Apparently Debbie knows and that's what she meant by saying,
<<I'm afraid Ruth's Impressionist brush is severely broken in PP9.>>
Sorry for all the hoopla over this. If there is a way for one to create
a brush to save the day; I think it would have been posted here in this thread.
Sorry to disappoint you, but that's the way things go these days in the
world of software. May I recommend PP 7 for this task?
The very best to you,
No, I cannot create the brush you need BUT I think you can use this
workaround. It's a bit of a pain at first, but once set up it works great.
The idea is to use the Impressionism clone for the strokes.
Are you ready? Roll up your sleeves.
Have the image you want to paint on open.
Make a new image the SAME dimensions as the image you are working on.
Choose a paint color that you want for the general 'base' color of the
stroke. We can change this later.
Select the Fill bucket and click in the new image. This will fill it with
the base color.
Select the Clone tool and select the Impressionist Clone.
Open the INFO docker (pain pain pain)
CTRL-click in the new image. Doesn't matter where.
From now on, you can RIGHT-click to move the source point.
Look at the info docker and get your point to x=0, y=0 and right-click in
the new image. (It may take a couple of tries to get it exact)
Now click on the title bar of your working image and while looking at the
Info docker, left click at X=0, Y=0. UNDO this stroke.
You are now all set up to paint with an impressionist brush.
As usual, if you want to change nib or size or anything else you can do it
with the settings on the brushes docker.
When you want a different color set, just select a new paint color. Click in
the title bar of the PLAIN image (the one we're cloning FROM) to make it
active, go to the Fill tool and fill with the Paint color. Then continue to
paint in your painting. No need to reset the source point.
