In case you haven't heard, Xandros Desktop in now shipping. Xandros is the
successor to Corel Linux created by the same development team with software
licensed from Corel and many new features. There is currently a limited
time offer for free shipping if you order on-line from
http://www.xandros.com. Corel Linux customers can obtain an additional
discount, contact sa...@xandros.com for details if you have not already
received an e-mail about it from Xandros.

============================================
I'm a little curious here - I read the material on the link and the
review there goes to great heights of ecstasy about ease of use, etc,
but it also comments that there are no init.d commands, etc.

Is Xandros a full UNIX implementation or is it a "Windoze" type system
where everything is buttoned down and you can't change it? [and
therefore can't develop very effectively :-( ].

Personally, I always boot to init level 3 just because I manage to screw
up so often!

John

(PS - on a different topic, does anybody have Michael Torrie's web site
URL? I seem to have deleted the bookmark - see above re screw up).

Yes, it is Linux and it is compatible with the 8000+ Debian Woody packages
that are out there. It has init. You can just do a lot of common sysadmin
things from graphical control panels if you wish, such as as starting and
stopping common services.

Any plans to get Corel to partner with you in getting some
WP/Draw/PhotoPaint applications through the Xandros application
installer? Also, any plans to get WPO2002 supported by Crossover?

These are all things we would like to do but nothing has been officially
announced yet.

So what does Xandros cost if one owns Corel Linux?
