I use Painter everyday as part of my job (illustrating children's books with
the watercolour brushes). I just upgraded to painter 7 a couple of days ago
and I can say that the new watercolour brushes do not impress me. They are
too slow and I can't import my previous brushes from 6 without them looking
completely different. I have a fast computer (G4 mac) with lots of RAM and
an ATI rage 128 pro card, but this seems not to be quick enough. Speed is
the most important thing for me when using watercolour brushes. It's like
spreading butter with a toothpick. And what happened to the Wet Fringe????

the problem here is that the new watercolor brushes are ANIMATED. if the end
result is all one is looking for then why not provide just the end result?!
procreate should seriously look at modifying the watercolor animation in the
next update. something like an animation on/off control. this might help speed
things up.

I agree, I'm getting a refund and I'll wait till some kind of improvement
has happened, they could have made the Painter 6 watercolour brushes work in
7 and there would have been no problem!!!

OK, I've been thinking about this the last couple of days. Not sure if I'm
positive about it, so please don't yell too loudly at me, but.....
why can't you look at the new brushes as neat tools and use them in your
art. If they hadn't called them watercolor brushes, couldn't you see using
your favs from the previous versions and using these new tools too?
I understand Jack's feelings, for instance, that he got his watercolor
technique down pat with the old tools.
Not minimizing that all. But what if you use these in addition? Do they have
to act exactly like the old Painter watercolors, or like real-life
watercolors to be useful? I think the answer is no, they are useful unto
themselves.
Just a thought.

Karen,

That's a very good point and exactly what I'm doing since I still have
both Painter 5 and Painter 6 on my system. Unfortunately, not everyone
can do that and some people are beginning with Painter 7. If they want
some of the simpler brush results, that's still a dilemma for them.

It's my strong hope that we can figure out some way to make Painter 7
Water Colors come closer to the brushes people are asking for .... or...
Corel will find a way to add some that will do it.

In any case, not everyone is as fortunate as I am.. not depending on
Painter 7 to do my work and earn a living and able to wait and enjoy
what Painter 7 offers no matter what happens. For me, it *is* a lot of
fun, even with bugs. :o)

Just rooting for those who want and need the brushes to work a certain
way.. if that's at all possible.

I'm not complaining about the new brushes, I think they look really good.
It's just the speed of them, it takes alot of processor power to paint
watercolours. As some people my know, clients want the artwork done
yesterday so speed is important to me.
