Hello,

I noticed that people are trying to make 7 behave like 6, so why not
just go back to using 6?

Is there a way to use the build up option on a brush like Smeary Flat?
I tried the tip provided by Karen Sperling, ( thanks ) but this would
not work on the brushes I use the most, like Variable Flat. The brushes
it worked on feel like markers.

Thanks,

(Still a work in progress... If your on anything below a GHz, PC, this
site will run slow. Unfortunately it runs poky on all Macs including
the DP 800 and 867. Barely useable on my G3 366 old timer.)

Hi Chris,
I see what you mean with Smeary Flat and Variable Flat.
What about this, I changed Dry Ink in the Brushes category to buildup and
got some nice results, then went back over the paint with smeary flat to get
those bristle brush strokes. Does that work for you? It would be nice to get
the color mixing in one step but maybe this is a good workaround.
Let me know. Since the question was first asked I've been having fun playing
around with this brushes category and trying to get oil painting effects.
I'm liking going over Dry Ink with the Liquid's Just Add water for a
smoother oil effect.
Nice change from struggling with watercolors ;-)

Thanks, for the comments on the site. I've put about a billion hours into it,
and have about 100 million left.

Thanks, Karen,

I tinkered with the Dry ink, and scaled down the bristles and spacing. It feels
kind of like watered down acrylics, which is great. Now I can buildup with
brush strokes.

Karen and whoever else is interested,

Just for fun, try painting with bright yellow on a Layer or the Canvas
with a brush set to Buildup.. Dry Ink is what I used (this is what I
recall.. but I'm not dead sure about it). Then, on another Layer, paint
with Cyan.. very lightly.. and see if you don't get a bright grass
green. You might have to fiddle with it a bit, bit it worked for me.
Other color combinations were sometimes interesting but not always.. and
almost never what we would expect.

A truly wonderful site, if anybody hasn't visited it yet then do it now! If
it takes a while be patient, it's worth it. Fantastic attention to detail.

Chris,
I'm so glad that worked for you!
Let me know when you post something with your new acrylics, I'd love to see
what you do with them.
Happy Painting!

since the patch i am now using P7. so far i'm happy but still toggle
between P6.1 and 7.1. there are some probs still and quirks. for
instance printing is still buggy. for instance when i check size to fit
option in 'page setup' (epson driver) i get an 'image does not fit
printer page error'? this was going on for 5-6 attempts, even with the
canvas size smaller than my 8.5x11 default. deciding to experiment i
UNchecked 'size to fit' and the image finally spooled!! only to have a
warning that printing had failed do to lack of system resources...?
painter 7.1 and epson monitor were the only apps open. eventually i
rebooted my mac and surprisingly epson monitor was still active and
ready to print!? this after the reboot. so i initialised the queue and
it printed fine. but this is a bit much to get something to print!
