I just downloaded the trial version of Painter 8 but I can't use it. It
crashes after about 10 seconds of wanting to start up with the usual
message similar to 'The application Painter has unexpectedly quit...'.
What am I doing wrong?
As Corel doesn't seem to able to offer any kind of troubleshooting on
their website, I hope anyone of you could help.
I am running OS X on a GHz PowerBook with 1024 MB RAM. OS X v 10.2.6
build 6L60, running in English.
Trying to start it with a fresh new user doesn't work either.
Toby, thanks in advance.

I had this problems, too. Did you try to install Painter 8 demo as
admin? I'm not sure if this is the solution because I had this problem
almost a half year ago... But I remember it was a admin/user problem.
You also can try to install Painter 8 into your user's home folder. One
of these two ways should work...

I usually only have one user and that is me, the admin. Tried several
things yesterday and it still doesn't work. Problem: I am about to order
Painter because I'd really need the software, but if the demo isn't
working, why should the full version work.
Thanks for your answer.
Toby
Have you tried calling Corel and asking them? They have an 800 number posted
at their web site at corel.com.
Good luck!

I will try to reach technical support.
I don't really know what to do know since I ordered Painter 8 before
testing the trial version so I'll let you all know how that works out.
Thank you.
Toby
You know, while it's logical to assume that the real version will work like
the trial version, in fact, there is some different programming in the trial
version that makes it different from the real version--so it might be this
different programming that's causing the problem, which has nothing to do
with the real version.
Who knows, I'm not a programmer for Corel, but I do know these things
happen.
Good luck!

I received the Painter 8 full version a few days ago and the problem
still existed.
I found my own solution as even Corel had no way to work it out. I tried
installing Painter 8 on my Cube and it worked flawlessly there so I
figured that it had to do something with my PowerBook OS X installation.
In the end, an app called Dragster helped me. It deleted DS_Store and
Global User Preferences files. I don't know exactly which did it but
after the two-minute clean-up (and resetting window preferences etc.),
Painter 8 began working.
Thanks for all your help!
Toby
Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard there was a problem on powerbooks.
I'm glad you were able to work it out.
