The new brushes have installed ok but has the program changed? Any other way
to tell?
Windows xp home edition
768 mb ram
Loads of disk space
I would appreciate some help - or anyone got the same problem?

1. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to where you installed
Painter 7.
2. Right click on the Painter.exe file.
3. Click on Properties at the bottom of the menu.
4. Click on the "Version" tab in the Painter.exe Properties dialog window.
5. Under "Other version information", select Product Version. If the
program
is updated you should see the numbers 7.1.357 in the "Value:" box.

Having just installed Painter 7 I haven't had much time to evaluate it.
However many of the new water colour brushes that I have been reading about
in this group seem to me to be badly blighted by masses of little black dots
. . .urghh! In my opinion the earlier water colour brushes were at least a
bit like water colour but what I've seen so far doesn't resemble real world
water colour at all. What do you think?
And bad becomes worse when I see that when using the old water colour
brushes in ver 7 it messes them up too!
Sorry if I'm a bit behind in this debate but I have been waiting for the
patch before buying.

There's a lot of Painter 7 information on my site that will help you
understand Painter 7 in general and especially the new Water Color
brushes. Look for the link named "John Derry's Painter 7 Visual Guides,
to Download".. and, on that page, the Water Color Visual Guide
specifically.
Also, click the "Painter 7 Tutorials" link to see that Karen Sperling
contributed a neat Quick Reference Guide for Painter 7 Water Colors.
All of these contributions by John Derry and Karen Sperling are
available for download in PDF format.
Click the link named "Painter 7 Custom Water Color Brushes Contributed
by Friends in the Painter Community" and download those brushes if you
want.
Here's the URL to PixelAlley's Section Links Page:
http://www.pixelalley.com/pixelalley-sections-pages.html
Most of the Painter 7 information is found linked from the right side of
the page, but you'll also find Painter 7 tutorials in the Tutorials
section (click the top link on the left side of the page). Many
tutorials in other sections are also be useable in Painter 7. Check the
Fun with Brush Strokes, Character Matters, and Effects sections for
tutorials and illustrated demos with explanations of how the image was
created.
Included in the Painter 7 Update, John Derry has created a new set of
Tinting brushes that bring back some of the older version Water Color
brush capabilities.. the simpler brushes that the older versions had.
You'll find with time and experimentation that the Painter 7 Water Color
brushes are really quite nice and do simulate real watercolors far
better than earlier Painter version Water Color brushes. It just takes a
while to learn how they work. Using the Brush Controls sections.. i.e.
Well and Water especially, along with the Art Materials palette's Paper
section.. these brushes can be made to paint without some of the odd
results noticed when we first use them in their default state. Again,
reading John Derry's Visual Guide for Water Colors will help you to
understand the how and why of Painter 7 Water Color Brushes.. and how
they interact with Paper textures.
Another very helpful resource and a wonderful community of very
talented, generous, and supportive artists is the Painter Forum at In
Depth Discussions where, among many other things, we've done a lot of
sharing of Painter 7 Water Color brush experiments, techniques, and
frequently make available for download our Custom Brush Variant .XML
files. The URL is below my signature and I hope you'll visit us there. I
think you'll find it to be a big help when learning to use Painter 7..
and a lot of fun as well.

Yes, I do sleep sometimes. <g> It's a nuisance to have to sleep, though.
I'd like to feel good all the time without it, but unfortunately, that
doesn't seem to work. You'll notice when I haven't had enough sleep
because I make a lot of typos (even more than usual).. and get cranky
too.
Happy Christmas to you! :o)
