Whenever I've used Painter, which admittedly isn't that regularly,
I've never gotten the paint to behave as I wish it would, blending
with the other colors on the canvas.
Well I've played with Painter 8, and found exactly what am I'm looking
for in the Mixer. There the paint blends beautifully, almost exactly
like what I'd expect on my palette.
Now my question is: what type of brush is that? How would I recreate
that brush so I could do the same thing on the actual canvas, instead
of just in the mixer. I went through all the Oil and Acrylic and other
brushes, and while some blended a bit, none (that I found) worked like
that mixer brush/paint.
Can anyone help me recreate a brush (or turn on some setting?) so I
can paint exactly like I can in the mixer?
Thank you!

This is a job of the Well-Section. Amount set to 0 will smear
existing color. Amount set to somewhat 5% will add a bit of color
and mix existing media. Play with the sliders. Try "20%, 50%, 40".
To simulate the mixer - for instance, take the "Dry tint" brush
(Dry) in P7, set the Amount-slider in the well-section to 10%, the
other ones (don't know what "Anlösung" and "Austrocknung" mean in
english) to the middle and paint a bit (or with the loaded knife:
dip to reload color). If you dont want to add color any more, set
the amount to 0 and you will smear the media.
The 2nd slider stands for the length & smoothness of the brush-
track (or trail?) and the 3rd one determines, how fast your brush
runs out of color.

My thanks! I've got a brush that suits my purposes perfectly.

?????? I do not see Amount in the Well sliders. I find Resat, Bleed and
Dryout there.

I would very much like to create such a Mixerbrush, but I can't seem to find
this Dry tint brush.
Could you or anyone else give me a better hunch of what to start with or
what you mean by dry tint brush.

Choose the Tinting's Basic Round brush and paint the colors you want to
blend.
Open the Brush Creator and in the Well section, move the Resat slider to
0.
On your image, paint to blend the two colors.
When you want to add more colors, go to the Brush Creator and in the
Well section, move the Resat slider to the right (or Restore Default
Variant to return the Basic Round variant to its default state).
Hope this is clear enough since I'm using the English Painter 8 30 day
trial version.

It clears it up, even using 7.
Yep, you can even do this in Painter 6 and earlier versions, though
you'd need to begin with another brush category since Tinting was only
introduced with the Painter 7 Update. Probably the Water Colors' Simple
Water would do it in earlier versions.

Thanks. You're right. I should know by now to test **everything** before
I speak, even if it means opening three Painter versions at once (and I
usually do this).
A better choice, of many, might be the Pens' Flat Color to lay down the
colors you want to mix.
Then to mix the colors, set the Pens' Flat Color variant to Size 14.8
(or whatever you want), Opacity 3%, and in the Brush Controls palette's
Well section, move the Resat slider to 0% and Bleed slider to 32%.
Then tweak to get the desired results if you don't quite like the way
this works.
I saved the adjusted Pens' Flat Color Variant and named it "Jin's Flat
Color Mixer".
Got any better suggestions? I'll bet you do. If so, they'll be welcomed.
;o)

Recently I use the digital airbrush with a flat tip to smudge and blend.
In the end of the day you can almost build anything out of any other tool,
don't you agree?

Erm, a look into the *.xml told me it is the "dry ink" (brushes
categry). Because i have renamed and reorganized almost everything
in the painter brushes folder, i don't know the original names
anymore. *g*
But the brush only was an example. You also could use the knife or
any brush that covers.

I definitely agree that we can turn any brush variant into any other
kind of brush variant. To make this point in one of my Painter classes,
I have the students turn a default Dry Media variant into a default
Water Color Variant.

Does the mixer brush use a diffrent brush engine then the other
brushes?
Has anyone had any sucsess in duplicating this brush?
Making a smeary brush is not what im after here. Adjusting the bleed
and resat while painting is a pain, id like to just use one brush at a
time.
Could someone post the brush file if they have it?
