I'm running the trail version of Painter 7. I've looked around for dry
brushes (not dry media) and can't find any. So I thought I'd ask.

Does Painter have brushes that paint dry, with no color, just strokes.
This would be similar to using a dry brush that is pulled across wet
paint that is already on the painting surface, adding brush marks and
pulling the paint somewhat in the direction of the stroke. If you've
looked at Nature Painter's dry brushes, what I'm talking about is
similar to this idea.

Thanks so much for the pointer. I got the brushes and installed them.
And the strokes on a lot of them look great!

I am having some trouble with the dry brushes, though. For example, if
I stroke from an area that is pink onto an area that is dark green, it
should pull the pink onto the green a little. But the result is that
some of the green is pulled into the pink, against the direction of the
stroke. In other words, the brush is behaving like it can tell the
angle of the stroke, but not the direction. And so it drags the paint
in two directions at once.

Do you know if I can control this and get it to drag paint only in the
direction of the stroke.

This is a problem I ran into when designing the brushes. Painter seems to
average the colors throughout the whole area of the brush which leads to the
result you are seeing. You can select "brush loading" from the "well"
settings. It seems to prevent this problem. Brush loading turns my brushes
into smear or pull brushes, which isn't the effect I wanted, but you can try
it - it might be what you are looking for.

Hi Chris. Thanks for answering so quickly. I tried the Loading and it is
closer to what I'm looking for. But as you point out, it changes the
nature of the brush from a stroke to a smear. Still, with some practice
maybe I can improve on the results I'm getting.
