I want to bring elements into an Oil painting Composition but when
establishing a new layer..I don't see an option to import a photo or any
thing else for that matter...maybe layer means something else in Painter
8..I tried bringing in the photo as a new project so that they shared the
same workspace with the oil painting..I looked for "Copy"/'Paste"...options
but Paste was not an option...I am use to Corel Photopaint..which allows you
to create an object from the background (photo)..press "Copy"..go to the
second project on the screen(Oil Painting in progress)..select " Paste"...It
will ask you if you would like to make it into a new layer..."Yes!"and
"wa-la"...there you have it (photo) to use and manipulate within the Oil
Painting....Do I need to bring the photo into the oil painting in a special
format?...If so what?...Can you combine two or more compositions? If so how?
If the answer is too lengthy...you can refer to pages...I have the Corel
Painter 8 User Manual and Jeremy Sutton "Painter 8 Creativity"..Digital
Artist's Handbook...
Ps: Other that these two books can anyone recommend any other books/Videos
easy to understand on Painter 8?

I think you're asking how to bring a photo into an oil painting image?

If so, select the photo image (Select: All [command+A, mac, ctrl+A,
windows]) Edit: Copy, make the oil image the current image, edit: paste.

The photo comes into the image as a layer.

I have lots of Painter tutorials at my web site, and I just announced some
new Painter retreat dates:

Hope this helps!

William you must have skipped the section on using tracing paper. What
you do is open your photo and go under edit and clone the image on the
cloned image select all and deleat. Then hit the tracing paper image on
the upper right hand part of the clone window and you will see a ghosted
image of the original image. Then you can paint in any or all of the
photo. In terms of books, I can recommend The Painter 8 Wow! Book by
Cher Threinen-Pendarvis, published by Peachpit Press.

Open both images and place them side by side. Contrl/Command+A on the image
you want to import, (Select all) and using the layer pick tool, just drag it
into the receiving image. Adjust size and whatnot, and there you are.

Hi William,

Or...

Use File > Place, locate the image you want to add to your working image
as a Layer, click the Open button, and choose the Scaling percent, or
let Painter do it for you. Click the OK button and the Placed image is a
Reference Layer (low resolution standing for the actual image). Click
the Layer Adjuster tool and adjust the scale further, if you want to. If
not, in the Layers palette menu, choose Convert to Default Layer.

How's that for multiple options? ;o)
