Hope this helps someone because I pulled my hair out trying to get the
update installed for Painter 8 on Mac OS X. I downloaded Painter 8 as
the 'Try before you buy (TBYB)' and then bought an activation code the
very same day. I have been trying to apply the update ever since and
kept getting a message "Can't update a trial version'. AGHHHH!!! I tried
uninstalling Painter 8 and then the installer could not find the folder
named Corel Painter 8 English. I followed the instructions at their
website to the 't' and also sent email to their tech support. Basically
they gave me the same info I had already found on their website. The
solution to fix the problem involved finding the file that stores the
registration information. It is located in /Library/Preferences and is
named "nTitles Product Licenses". Remove the file from that folder (I
placed mine on the desktop just in case" and then launch Painter 8. You
should get the same dialog that asks if you want to 'Try, Buy or
Activate'. Choose to 'Activate' the product and re-enter the
registration number that Corel sent you when you purchased the product.
Once the product has been activated, then you should quit Painter 8 and
then run the updater. It installed for me and I now have Painter 8.1.
Hope this helps someone before they pull out all of their hair.
