I was so excited when I just downloaded it ...
But! The first thing that a person sees when opening a program is its icon
, logo on a splash screen. And Painter's new logo makes me absolutely sick
*literally*. I just can't see it all the time when I start the program. I
know it may well be some sort of haute art, but my senses just don't buy
it.
I checked the features, the new feel of brushes - it's great, but now I'll
have to put up with opening something absolutely disgusting when I want to
enjoy painting experience. I also thought that Painter IX would have
better tool icons (Draw 12 has rather nice ones and so does PS, but
Painter has these old ones).
I know these are little things, irrelevant to Painter's capabilities, but
for me they are important, they affect my mood. I wrote this because I
have a feeling that I'm not alone with this.
Thanks Corel for the greatest painting tool, but I liked Painter 8's
"paint bucket" logo a lot more, it was neutral and nice.
Were you able to enjoy the Welcome Screen, with rotating art from a lot
of Painter masters?
Maybe you could launch Painter, go get a cup of coffee, and skip the
intro image. ;o)
By the time you get back, things will look a lot warmer and cozier, and
inspiring to boot.
Just a thought.

i agree completely. when i first opened painter ix after installing it my
upper lip just kinda involuntarily twisted from a feeling of perplexed
revulsion. i remember my first thought was, "am i gonna have to look at
this splash every time i open this program?"
please corel, change that splash screen for the final retail release or put
something in preferences to allow it to be disabled.
otherwise painter ix looks great.
Someday I hope to introduce my parents to Painter as a potential hobby.
Until now I have not even attempted the introduction because a sense
that they would feel intimidated and would feel that it is not for them.
The idea that Painter is for "professionals" has been a barrier to entry.
This new "ugly" image, if found on the retail box and made prominent,
may represent a sensitivity to potential new customers.
It reminds me of a campfire situation some years ago, where someone
brought a guitar and yet people felt shy about playing in front of
others. Sensing this, a guy quietly picked up the guitar and proceeded
to show everyone that he didn't know how to play at all, but that he
wasn't afraid to play. His short demonstration was enough to encourage
participation.

I've re-installed the demo several times on different
computers but have not seen anything different about
the Welcome screen, nor do I see anything when clicking
on the About or Welcome commands under Help.
Am I missing something?

You should get a different image (on the left page) every time you click
back to the first "tab" of the Welcome Screen. You should also get a
different bio every time you invoke the Welcome Screen (Help/Welcome, or
launch the program).

Oh, it is that bad!!
Basically, it's the pink hand with nine digits shown on the preview page:
<http://www.corel.com/painterix/comingsoon/index.html>
It doesn't have the black bar across it, except on the splash screen.
Maybe it isn't finalized yet and it will get changed. Even if it isn't,
it is possible to change the icons to something else*. Even if that
something else is just the Painter 8 icons.
I'm a Painter 8 newbie having just bought it 6 months ago. I doubt I'll
buy the upgrade, especially at $230.
*If you know how
In post by Corel Painter Program Manager Rick Champagne at CGTalk's
Painter Forum, he shows us both the front and back of the new Painter IX
box. That'll show you the "logo" in more full context of the overall
concept and design.

Someone posted a fix for this (don't remember who). In the Painter 9 program
folder, there's a file called Box.id.
Rename it, or zip it (I zipped it). No more splash. Worked great.
Thanks to whoever posted this!
