Painter IX - Import brushes from 8.0?

Is it possible to import all my built & custom brushes & custom palettes
from 8.0 into IX?

This is always one of the most painful parts of upgrading and I'm
wondering how much pain is going to be involved with this upgrade.

Yes, you can, Also grads and papers, and any other modified portfolios.

Hi splatter,

We have to be careful of the terminology in Painter to prevent confusion. In
Painter IX it not possible to 'Import brushes from 8.0', but it is possible
to 'Add brushes from 8.0'.

The term 'import' as applied to the Brush libraries only applies to
pre-version 7 libraries. When these libraries are imported (by selecting
'Import Brush Library' from the Brush Selector Bar menu), Painter IX
automatically converts them to the new 'xml' etc. format and copies this to
the 'User' Brushes folder.

For version 7 and 8 Brush libraries, you can either copy those libraries to
Painter IX, or if you do not intend to keep Painter 7/8, you can move them
the custom libraries to Painter IX.

In Painter IX, we now have a choice of locations in which to place our
copied/ moved P7/8 custom libraries. We can either place the Brush library
in the 'Application' Brushes folder (which means it will be available to all
users), or in the 'User' Brushes folder (which is user-specific).

Thanks for the clarification, David.

I did go ahead and COPY all my custom brushes from my 8.0 folders to my
9.0 folders this afternoon and all seems to be well.

At first, I did dig through the menus and help files of 9.0 looking for
some kind of "import" tool. Not finding one, I then tried to use the
Mover that you mentioned, but because the custom brushes were not saved
to a separate library, I couldn't do it. It was at that time I came here
and posted my question.
