Please explain the following Painter 7 behavior as I can find nothing in
either the hard copy Painter 7 User Guide or in the Help menu Search
function using every word I can think of that might pertain to this
problem. Documentation of the Water Color brushes is extremely light in
the Painter User Guide and neither it nor the Water Color tutorial
supplied on the CD even begin to answer these questions.. and others
(correct me if I'm wrong.. I'll be happy if that's the case):
1. I opened a new white Canvas.
2. Made the Primary color R:149, G:13, B:33 and Secondary color R:37,
G:37, B:219.
3. Opened a New Water Color Layer (1st), picked the Water Color Diffuse
Camel variant, switched to the Secondary color R:37, G:37, B:219, and
painted.
4. Switched to the Water Color Eraser Salt variant.
5. **Painter 7*** automatically switched back to the former Primary
Color R:149, G:13, B:33.
6. I switched to a new color R:219 G:118 B:37.
7. Switched to the Water Color Diffuse Camel variant.
8. Opened a New Water Color Layer (2nd).
9. Painted on the New Water Color Layer.
10. Switched to the Water Color Eraser Dry variant.
11. **Painter 7** automatically switched to a completely new Primary
Color R:69 G:172 B:6 and Secondary Color white.
12. I switched to the Water Color Diffuse Camel variant.
13. Painted on the same New Water Color Layer (2nd).
14. I switched to the Water Color Eraser Salt variant.
15. **Painter 7** switched to Primary color R:219 G:118 B:37 (this was
my newly picked color in Step 6) and Secondary Color R:149 G:13 B:33
(this was the Primary Color in Step 2).
16. Painted again on the same New Water Color Layer (2nd).
17. I switched to the Water Color Diffuse Camel variant and painted
again on the same New Water Color Layer (2nd).
18. Switched to the Water Color Eraser Dry variant.
19. **Painter 7** automatically switched to Primary Color R:69 G:172 B:6
and Secondary Color white (these were the completely new colors Painter
7 automatically chose as the Primary and Secondary Colors in Step 11).
20. I didn't paint this time.
21. I switched to the Water Color Eraser Diffuse variant.
22. **Painter 7** automatically switched to Primary Color R90 G:80 B:31
and Secondary Color white.
23. I opened a New Water Color Layer (3rd).
24. Switched to the Water Color Runny Airbrush variant and painted on
the New Water Color Layer (3rd).
25. I switched to the Water Color Eraser Grainy variant.
26. **Painter 7** switched to Primary Color white and Secondary Color
white.
27. Painted using the Water Color Eraser Grainy variant.
28. Switched to the Water Color Dry Bristle variant.
29. Switched to Secondary Color R:1 G:155 B:193 and Secondary Color
R:193 G:181 B:1.
30. Painted on the same New Water Color Layer (3rd).
31. Switched to the Water Color Eraser Wet variant.
32. **Painter 7** switched to Primary Color R:79 G:81 B:41 (sorry, I
forgot to note what Painter 7 did to the Secondary Color this time).
33. Painted on same New Water Color Layer (3rd) - yukky olive green
blob.
That's enough for today. I am completely befuddled.
Please supply us with information that will explain how these Water
Color variants are supposed to work and what's happening with Painter 7
changing the colors.
Giving Corel and the Painter 7 developers credit for intending them to
work this way, it's still hard to use them without documentation or
someone available to teach us. If I've missed something that's available
on the CD, please tell me where it is and I'll be happy to read it and
try to learn.
Thanks, :o)

I've started a page on my site that includes some information on the
Water Color Eraser variants/Color change problem and another bit on the
best way to combine Water Color Layers onto a single Layer that includes
a neat little extra that at first might seem confusing but really is a
benefit. Please take a look and save the URL because I'll be adding to
the page as we learn more about Painter 7. Here's the address:

It would be great if more of you who are using Painter 7 let us know how
it's going, if you've had any difficulties and found solutions or are
still looking for them. Especially nice would be to see what you're
creating. I've just posted my first new custom brush variant to the
Painter Forum at In Depth Discussions along with a test image done using
it. Once I know that the download works alright, I'll make the brush
file available for anyone who wants it.
Have fun, folks. :o)
