Pressure seems to be detected in Wacom's OSX control panel/Application - so
why can't Painter?

Hi Paul,
Painter 7 was released in July before the beta tablet driver was
available to us for testing and implementation, which is the reason that
there currently isn't pressure support in Painter 7 on Mac OS X.
The way that tablet support was integrated into the Macintosh OS is
radically different from Mac OS 9 (and earlier) to Mac OS X, which,
unfortunately, means that some work has to be done to the Painter code
in order to support pressure sensitivity on Mac OS X. Right now our
development team is working closely with Wacom and with the beta driver.
As soon as Wacom Wacom releases their final driver (date to be
determined) we will release an update that includes pressure support for
Mac OS X.
Does that help? Tanya
Seems like a bug in Painter.

Thanks. I hope Tanya read my message, though, so when she posts to the
newsgroup again everyone will be able to read her messages. I imagine
that's what whe wants too, since she took the time to write. <g>
Happy weekend to you! :o)

The tablet issue is not really a problem for Painter 7 users on a Mac
since there is no problem using the tablet in MAC OS 8.6./9.1.
MAC OS X is still by itself a problem and as far as I know the Painter 7
users on Windows do not have problems using their tablets.
If Wacom is not ready with a driver for MAC OS X it is not juste to
blame Corel.

As much as I like OS 10, I wouldn't run it in a production environment
*until* I was sure that it wouldn't cause huge workflow headaches.

Funny, because until recently OS 10 didn't even have tablet support.

Are you using Adobe Photoshop 6 together with MAC OS X and a WACO
-Tablet?
Félicitations!
BTW. Are you on a MAC?
FYI.. I find it quite easy to understand that:
Two companies can have problems keeping perfectly in sync with their
releases.
That Corel might have chosen to wait for Wacom to catch up, but since
most Painter 7 users would have tablet/pen/pressure sensitivity, they
decided to release Painter 7 and are doing the best they can to work
with Wacom and get Mac OS X Painter 7 users pressure sensitivity as
quickly as possible.
We users were asking for Painter 7 and Corel, after all, needs income to
support the software at all.
I want to express my appreciation to you and others at Corel for your
recent appearances on the corel.graphic_apps.painter newsgroup. It's a
good thing, and I am happy that our requests for interaction with Corel
here in the newsgroup (and elsewhere) have been heard and are being
answered.
I know it's extra work for you and hope that I am right in believing
that it will pay off, not only for your customers, but for
Corel/Procreate as well.
It's a good step in the direction of customer relations and customer
satisfaction.
Again, thank you, and have a wonderful week! :o)

You've got it exactly right! :-) When we released Painter 7 we did not
have a clear indication of when tablet support would be supported in OS
X. Based on that, we released Painter 7 with the understanding that when
tablet support became available on OX S, we would provide an update to
Painter 7, which we will do when Wacom releases their final driver. At
this time, I do not know when that will be. Our developers are working
closely with the Wacom developers though to ensure a timely release.
My messages should now appear in plain text but if not, please let me
know! :-)

Glad I got that right. <g> I always feel handicapped when talking about
anything to do with Mac since I'm not a Mac user.
Speaking of all this, have you see this page, and is it of any help? If
so, I'll pass it on to others. If not, please let me know so I don't
confuse the issue.
