New simple water color

Hi all,
I have a bit of a problem with the digital water color:
imagine painting say an ocean in the foreground of an image, you lay down
one flat area of greenish blue and then you paint a lighter tone of that
colour on top to shape the waves, and it doesnt blend! In fact, it rather
fades to white or raises the saturation of the underlying colour. I reduced
blend almost to 0, that helps a bit, also adding a bit of diffusion helps,
but it still does not work like 6.1.
Am I missing here something?
Any comment & help appreciated.

Very strange,
I think Painter IX had a bit of hangover this morning (excessive usage?)
when I restarted that strange behaviour was gone....?
Has anyone else observed this?
