I'm a bit free-time-challenged (got 2 kids!), so I can't guarantee I'd
be able to make these on a regular basis, but I think I'd be able to
make the 11/8 meeting.
Thanks for organizing this!

It'd be kind of like Barcamp, but in a much smaller way. And, we think, morefrequently. Like once every couple of weeks or once a month or so.We'd shoot for the first event to be roughly 11/8 at 6-7pm in the Gramstandbasement (capacity, about 20. enough to have a bit of a crowd but smallenough to be intimate). If it gets popular we could move to larger spaces. What do you think? Does this sound like a good idea? Anything to add to it?Would it make any sense to merge this with the Happy Hour event we'replanning? Thanks!Tony

Brainstorm was more along the lines of what I was thinking. (Or maybe
BrainDump or some such.) I think Demo does sort of imply a formal demo
of a product to an audience, like the Tech Meetup does.
Hey - how about BrainShare?

Subject: [CooBric] Re: New Event
Talked to Richard at Gramstand about using the downstairs space for
our event.
Here's the basic breakdown of costs:
==Lower-Level Event Rental==
Event Pricing (3-4 hours):
Full Catering - $337
Snack Catering - $276
Space Only - $170
BYOB Corking Fee* - $100
It would be nice to use Gramstand as our location and I think the
basement is a nice space, but I'm not married to it. I'd be game for
another location that's cheaper and/or bigger.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Tony
a) I wonder whether we'd get enough attendees to cover the cost, and
b) I guess I was thinking this was supposed to a pretty informal
get-together for people to just hang out and toss ideas around. If it
gets pricey, then:
1) we might be forced to try to gather a larger number of people than
might be ideal for the purpose of "brain-sharing" and/or
2) people need to chip in more than they'd like to pay for the space -
so it could scare away attendees.
So I'm not trying to shoot down the idea, but I'm just wondering if
somewhere without a room charge might be better.
Hmmm .... not sure where to suggest as an alternative though -
particularly since I'm not sure how many people we're talking about.
Here's a thought: I once held a small users group meeting at The Apple
bar/restaurant in the Village (http://www.applerestaurant.com/).
Although they have a private party room (which again costs bucks) we
didn't need it. I basically just made a reservation for a big table for
dinner (maybe 12ish people). Place wasn't overly crowded or noisy (it's
a mellow place, plus it was a weeknight) so it worked out OK. Pros:
pretty cheap. No need to pay for the room, just everybody paying for
their own dinner and drinks. Cons: the "long table syndrome", where
the group wound up sort of splitting into a bunch of smaller
sub-conversations. Might not be such a problem for the purposes of
something like BrainShare though.
So perhaps there - or somewhere similar?
Anyone else have some thoughts on the matter?
(And by the way, thanks very much for looking into this Tony.)

We're researching locations for January anyway, so I'll see what I can
do to find something sooner.
BTW, I'm upstairs at Gramstand today sporting the white macbook.

While I see one component/direction being this free-form meetup where
peope can voice their ideas and thoughts, I can also see starting with
a certain theme or problem and then us brainstorming solutions as a
group.
I think this is starting to take shape!
Thanks,
Tony
I work at the Manhattan Village Kaplan Center at 16 Cooper Square. We
can get a classroom in the evening. It'll have room for 40 (at most),
a whiteboard and tables, and WiFi (though we may want to plug in our
own access point as it can be finicky).
We have to keep it under the radar a bit, since they don't typically
rent out or even lend out space to outside groups.
There's usually at least one spare room on any given evening, so let's
pick a date and I can reserve it. Maybe we should move the event
planning to the wiki?

Any ideas on dates? I'd like to check for room availability before
putting it on Meetup.

The other idea was to try to outline a vision of a coworking web
platform, but that seems like it should wait given what's already
underway out at Citizen Agency.

Looks like it's scheduled for 11/15 on the meetup though. Which date is
correct?

The event is still going as planned. The location has wifi, but I
don't want to trust it completely. The rooms have ethernet jacks as
well. Does anyone have a wifi access point that we can plug in?
Also, be sure to sign up at http://newtech.meetup.com/75
What's everyone planning to present?

I'll be showing off a clothing-related social network. But people
shouldn't have to reserve in advance or anything. I hope we see some
of the cool things I've been seeing around the CooBric, however. Greg,
Robert?
Just to emphasize, we're not showing off finished products here,
although thats fine too... it'd be great to see lots of early or in-
progress ideas, experiments, even just mashups between 2 web services
or something.
