Hi All,
I cannot be on the call tomorrow as I will be in transit so here is some
news:
As promised, I got in touch with the folks organizing the grand finale of
Cabot's East Coast Community Tour in Payson Park (Portland) on July 7th.
It's a celebration of co-ops to mark the International Year. There are a
couple dozen organizations and companies (including Local Sprouts and Port
Clyde Fresh Catch) working on and co-sponsoring the event.
Chris Pierson from Cabot took a suggestion I threw out casually quite
literally, and they made up buttons that say Ask Me About Co-ops. I had said
we might enlist some people in the Co-op Maine network who'd like to come to
the park, maybe with their families to check it out, and to meet some other
co-ops at our tent, perhaps--if they were comfortable with the idea--to
wander around a bit and encourage folks to ask about their co-ops or co-ops
in general (10am-2pm are the hours the festivities will take place).
They also may need volunteers to help with the recycling areas they have set
up (emptying already sorted garbage/trash, recyclables and returnables at 3
locations), if anyone is interested. A great place to wear the Ask Me button
as well. And an organic cotton Co-op Maine tee shirt!!
I am helping to staff our tent because I see this as an opportunity for
Maine co-ops to meet one another in a fun, easy way that raises Co-op
Maine's visibility right at a time that could be helpful to us, yet costs us
nothing to provide. We might show Lynda's Powerpoint, or have
mini-presentations (we could post the program that day if it came to that),
or a 'social hour' when Maine co-ops were expressly invited to stop in at
our tent and meet one another.
If you think these ideas worthy of discussing tomorrow, please just let me
know what you think and I will try to take the next steps. It is your ideas,
advice, suggestions, referrals, cautions and questions that I welcome. And,
hopefully, you who are members of co-ops esp. in the Portland area might be
willing to show up for the social hour and/or to volunteer an hour. Of
course I'm delighted to have others in this group working on this, the
outcome will be much better, but I know you're all busy and don't expect it.
Thanks for any time and thought you can give.
Best, Jane.
