The Sherpas are coming, the Sherpas are coming!
Yes, the calendar is flipping over to April - no fooling! And on April
12, we are please to be hosting the Sherpas. This is a fine collection
of 3 great singer-songwriters - they back each other up on their songs,
combining forces as a Folk Supergroup...
These guys don't tour together frequently, but they're longtime friends
and collaborators, so this will be a rare opportunity to see them as a
group. One of the reasons they're playing this special weekend is that
Tom Prasada-Rao and Michael Lille both share a birthday - they were both
born on April 13, and will turn 50 the day after our show. They booked a
celebration show at the Birchmere outside of DC on Friday night, and I
contacted them and grabbed them for Saturday!
This show will be different for Cooldog in several ways:
1. This is a SATURDAY evening show, with the music starting around 8pm.
So please arrive around 7:30.
2. There will be no opening act - these guys individually have such a
catalog of songs, we figured our audience will have enough trouble
trying to figure out which CDs to buy.
3. The suggested donation is a little bit higher than normal - we're
asking for $20 instead of $15 - still a pittance for a high quality show
on a Saturday evening.
I think the rest of the typical Cooldog stuff applies - please bring a
covered dish to share, we'll have beer, wine & soft drinks available, etc.

Some more info on the Sherpas:
Close friends for years, often passing like ships in the night as they
pursued solo careers, the band members have found common ground for long
enough to record a stunning album. "Honor Among Thieves" is a soulful
presentation, weaving a tapestry of their many facets through thirteen
spiritual, political, romantic, groovy, compelling collaborative
compositions. Unique.
Tom Prasada-Rao's passion and soul have earned him numerous writing and
performing awards, including Best Male Vocalist eight years in a row at
the Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies). His songs have been recorded
by David Wilcox, Randy Travis, actor Ronny Cox, and many others. In
addition to his performing, producing and songwriting work, he spends
summers teaching at the University of Virginia’s Young Writers’
Workshops, taking young high school poets and fiction writers and
turning them into songwriters complete with a CD of their own song when
they leave. In addition to his solo work, he performs in the duo The
Dreamsicles with his wife, Cary Cooper.
Tom Kimmel’s songs have been recorded by Joe Cocker, Linda Ronstadt,
Johnny Cash, Randy Travis, The Stray Cats, Waylon Jennings, The
Spinners, and Shawn Colvin. Featured in motion pictures such as Runaway
Bride, Serendipity, and Twins, and in television shows as varied as
Captain Kangaroo, Miami Vice and Touched By An Angel, recordings of
Tom’s compositions have sold millions of copies around the world,
achieving gold and platinum sales in many countries.
Michael Lille's songwriting and lustrous guitar playing have earned him
the respect and admiration of peers and fans across the country. In
addition to his Sherpas collaboration, he is a member of SGGL (Speidel,
Goodrich, Goggin & Lille), a band formed in 1983 in Charlottesville, VA,
which went on to produce 4 CDs that sold over 125,000 copies.
I hope you'll plan on joining us for this special show. And don't forget
to check out the next show, coming right on its heels - The Refugees on
April 20th (a typical Sunday afternoon show).
Thanks!
Beth
