I am doing some research and I was wondering if any Content Strategists have come across any instances of a design process being open and collaborative involving users or the public right through the design process.

A little like these -

Patrick, I am developing an open framework based upon APQC’s Process Classification Framework and DITA specifications for a content taxonomy.  This can be used during pre-design to assist in the  development a content inventory and strategy.

I am not sure if that is what you are looking for as it is not part of the design process per say. We believe however it will aid in the design process significantly.

Hi Patrick!

The CDC redesign process in 2007-08 used a combination of a participatory design approach (with range of CDC stakeholders participating) and a user-centered design approach.
This isn't as open as the examples you gave, but it's very open for a huge government agency.

CNN was also fairly open throughout their 2007 redesign and other efforts.

Thanks!
Colleen
