Hi!

Connectivitas is the name we have chosen for our study group in
Spanish. We have created several sites (in grou.ps, wikia, wikispaces,
etc.) to assess which one adapts better to our needs. Also, we have
created a Pageflakes site at http://www.pageflakes.com/connectivitas/
that will be used by our group members to access all components of
CCK08, to share information among themselves and with the community,
and to report back about findings, etc.

Greetings,
Esperanza

Subject: Re: Community of Practice on Connectivism in Spanish
Hello there,

Considering the chance that this upcoming course will offer to see how
the ideas proposed by George and Stephen relate to our real contexts,
a group of Colombian educators are starting sort of a study group (not
a CoP, because we don't have a connectivist-based practice yet, I'd
say) to discuss the issues related to connectivism.

I struggled a little with the thought of having another spanish-
language community, besides the one led by Esperanza.  But in the end,
it's clear to us that the social, economic and technological context
of Colombia (and I'd say all of Latin America) creates specific issues
that affect the way Connectivism can be understood (also, the
technology skills of some of our teachers can be quite different from
that of Spain).  So we took a chance to start yet another community.

I wanted to propose something related to tagging.  We have the CCK08
tag for all of our material.  What if, when the material is written in
Spanish, we add also the tag "CCK08-Esp"?  That way, we can easily
filter the Spanish links and posts (which could help some non-english
speakers)...  I looked for some of the links tagged with CCK08 in
del.icio.us, and already added the CCK08-Esp tag to them.

I saw a message concerning translation in the blog, pointing out the
importance of have a two-way translation.  That is, to translate to
English the information that appears in Spanish.  I'd say right now
that's something we english-speakers could do, providing English
translations of the posts we write in Spanish.  Obviously, is quite
difficult to try and translate everything, so maybe using the wiki to
post summaries of the Spanish discussions could help to close a little
the language gap.

I'm trying to coordinate a group of volunteers, in order to translate
the materials of the course to Spanish.  So far, we have 4 people from
Colombia interested in helping with this.  If anyone want to join us,
please let me know by e-mail.

Jaime, the course will start on September, as far as I know.

Greetings to everyone!

Hi Diego,

I completely agree that social, technological, political, etc.
circumstances in each country are different. Even within countries,
the effects of the digital divide and other issues affect the way
different segments of the population perceive and are affected by the
information flow. So, I applaud your initiative of creating  a study
group in Colombia.

Furthermore, given the large amount of Spanish speakers, I can foresee
that many other country-based communities like yours will be created
in the next days or weeks, so their members can concentrate in the
specific issues of their countries or communities (i.e., like the ones
that have already been created in English). It is my hope though, that
all those smaller communities will be connected with each other
anyhow, to avoid duplicating efforts (for instance in translating or
in accessing materials) and to take advantage of our combined research
potential. To promote communication among each of these groups, maybe
we could have liaisons or regular synchronous meetings, maybe through
our group Connectivitas or through any other initiative.

Connectivitas (http://www.pageflakes.com/connectivitas/ ), has already
members located in Argentina, Ecuador, España, Grecia, Estados Unidos,
Italia, México and Venezuela. Connectivitas members are very
interested in getting a global perspective from all the Spanish-
speaking researchers, students, professionals, etc., that can help
understand how "connections" work in the Spanish speaking world, why
research and practices carried out in Spanish do not get spread out
within and outside the Spanish speaking world as much as they should,
why collaborative efforts do not seem to work out in our countries,
and what we can do to solve these issues.

Regarding tagging, I think it is a great idea to use CCK08-ES or
CCK08_ES (underscore may work better for indexing purposes). I would
though keep using CCK08, because that´s the convention of the course.
After all, our Spanish documents are also part of CCK08.

Muchos saludos y seguimos en contacto,

Esperanza

¡Hola, Jaime!

Our group is not organizing a real course, but a community of
interested professionals and students who will be discussing in
Spanish the ideas that will come up during Siemens and Downes course
on Connectivism and Connective Knowledge, which begins in September.
During July and August, we are going to be

- testing some platforms (both for synchronous and asynchronous
communication
- setting up subgroups, according to interests and previous knowledge
and experience,
- getting to know each other,

among other things.

Hi there, Esperanza!

Just a quick message/announcement (it's past lunch time here!)

> I may not have been clear about the tag question: I think we could use
> both (with the ES extension and without it).

That's my proposal.  To use both of them.  Let's move to "CCK08_Es",
then (I keep thinking the underscore is not as easy to type for some
people as the hyphen, but that's just me :-D.  By the way, you are
right about the indexing).  I have changed my del.icio.us tag to that,
already. (Leo, I'd suggest then to go with CCK08_Ch in your case).

I'm also discussing with some other people some kind of collaborative/
volunteering process to translate materials, using the wiki and
GoogleDocs (sort of what DotSub does, but with documents).  I'll let
you know as soon as I hear from them.  It would be great to have more
people helping with this, and maybe our ideas could be used then by
Leo.

In other news, I just finished translating the front wiki page to
Spanish.  It's linked from the English front page. I hope to include
there info about the different groups working on this, and maybe the
suggestions for helping out with translation.

I have some some concerns about how things could work when the course
is on its way in September.  But I'm also very hungry, so I guess I'll
write later.  :-D

Best,

Diego

Hi, Esperanza, Diego and everybody! I want to let you know that we are
getting together in Venezuela, too. Great idea about tagging.
Regarding on how to organize all these regional groups... all of us
(English Speakers) will be following the course in English and them
we'll discuss in  Connectivistas what's happening and later coordinate
how to report to our local groups....  Als, we could organized our own
webcasts with special guests that in this case we'll be Spanish
Speakers and our fellow teachers and students that don't speak English
can profit from this experience, too. That will be a lot of work, but
we are really excited about it and willing to collaborate. I think we
should keep up with the group that Esperanza started and create our
own wikis or blogs to post what's happening in our countries.

You can count on our group in Venezuela... we will posting at
Blogeando en Ciencias de la Educacion  http://blogeandoencienciasdelaeducacion.blogspot.com/
and we will tagging CCK08_ES_VE... is that Ok?

Hugs to you all and keep on connecting and shining!

Hi Doris,

I would suggest to use the tag you mention (CCK08_ES_VE) only if you
want to filter the content generated in Venezuela.  If you want your
content to be gathered for the pageflakes english site, you need to
use also CCK08.  The idea with CCK08_ES is to make it easy to filter
all the Spanish based content.

bring up for discussion during our study group sessions the topic of
how to keep connected when there is no wifi around, and the only way

Hello people,
I have an idea for the study group.  At the present, I am searching
for ideas and discussion about the curriculum into the e-learning
programs.   The topic of investigation is: curriculum and pedagogical
models into de virtual enviroments or e-learning programs.  The
Hypotesis: The curriculum doesn't exist into the autonomous learning.
A lot of information an knowledge decides new forms of learning and
the procesos of specialization.   This work comes from the Phd in
Educational Ciences from Colombia - Pedagogical and Technological
University - Tunja-Boyaca.  Bye bye.

Hi Barbara, thanks for your answer.  In any study program we see the
"body" topics about  the learning process. Maybe by levels, or
periods.  Each one defined by a group of experts.  But, this process
is optional, the flexibility is decided by the learner.  In this case
is possible and true.  According to our interests, passion and needs,
we decide our process learning into the university programs for
example.  But, the internet is changing this situation, and all the
information and knowledge must be evaluated by the learner and the
expert that create a study program.  How to construct or build a
curriculum that involve the autonomous learning and constructive
teaching?
Warm  regards from Tunja - Boyaca - Colombia. 7 grades-celcius but a
lot of warm people.

Which one is that? I'm interested in discussing these issues from an
undeveloped/ developing (whatever) country. I think that difference is
more relevant than language. No need to think of it as a Spanish-
language community. So, where did you take that chance of starting
another community?

Subject: Re: Community of Practice on Connectivism in Spanish
Hi everybody!

Any initiative that takes into consideration any type of differences
(based on infrastructure, culture, language knowledge, etc.) can be
extremely useful to understand the impact of the network in the way we
learn and construct knowledge. Our group/network, Connectivitas -
http://www.pageflakes.com/connectivitas, which has over 60 members,
decided to approach the study and application of CCK from the
perspective of the Spanish language because we would like to use our
native language to discuss about the topics included in this course.
Spanish speakers, regardless of the country they live in, have
different levels of knowledge of the English language, so if we
"study" together, we think more people--not only those who master the
English language--will be able to take advantage of the course. Also,
we aim to be able to spread the knowledge generated in languages other
than English. Finally, we know there are specific culture features
that are probably affecting the way we interact and make use of the
networked knowledge. Connectivitas members (who come from 16 different
countries) are aware of the differences based on economical and
sociopolitical facts, and plan to take them into account while
discussing CCK topics. We are looking forward to interacting with any
other such groups via any of the CCK08 environments, our platforms and
communication networks, or theirs.

Best regards,
Esperanza
