Hi all,

Last night at the meeting we successfully printed some of the medium-
complexity parts needed to create a RepRap Mendel - the next
generation of 3D printers!

Inspired by this, I have started a very basic page for the CCHS 3D
printer project and will hopefully be updating it as things progress.
It can be found linked off the "current projects" page of the CCHS
google group site. (Pete, I will get you a copy of more content as
things progress....promise)

In the meantime, please feel free to get in touch with me if:
- you are interested in helping build the printer (and print parts/
be a Makerbot operator)
- you have other things you want to print and need some help
- any other reason I haven't thought of

I know there are already a few people interested and I am hoping that
with the Makerbot now churning out higher quality parts more reliably,
we can accelerate our efforts.

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I fit into at least two of your categories:

 - I am definitely interested in helping out as a Makerbot operator and/ or construction worker :)
 - I have a few things I'd like printed

I'm away from Melbourne for the next couple of week, but can touch base with you when I'm back.

Cheers,

Paul

1. I'm building myself a Mendel, and have most of the rod/bolts/etc, but
currently no plastic parts.

2. I've got a complete set of straight rod pre-cut for the Mendel for
the Hackerspace (was like $7.50 per set).

3. I've probably got some M8 threaded rod excess as well, but not enough
for a full kit. I'm paying $7ish per 1m length shipped from a place in
Qld with $15 shipping (compared to say $26 from Bunnings, plus theirs is
bent!).

4. I'm not planning on using the standard electronics, but something
based more on an Arduino Mega with the Polulu drivers.

5. I'm happy to baby-sit a Makerbot printing parts, but that would be
once I move house (the move is this weekend, but it'd be a few weeks
after that before I will be able to get to the Hackerspace for more than
a 5 min visit).

Hi All,

I'm thinking of building myself a Makerbot cupcake CNC (I'm a newbie
to building electro-mechanical gadgets, but up for the challenge!)...
wondered if I could see one in action and get to hold and feel some
parts made by this 3D printer before I made the investment.

Thanks for your assistance in advance,
cheers,
Vish

I am too thinking of building a Reprap, But I was going to buy a
makerbot to print the parts and then strip it of its electronics. I am
still unsure on the size of machine that I will require, the makerbot
by itself may do.

I would also like to come and have a look at the makerbot, and if
there is any way I can help out with the reprap project (donating
parts, cutting stuff on my cnc etc) then I would be happy to help

Currently, there is a MakerBot (on loan) at the HackerSpace, gradually
printing parts for a RepRap Mendel.

If you come along to the Tuesday evening meetings or the weekend
meeting (there is one this weekend) ... then, "yes", you'll be able to
see it in action and chat with MichaelJ about the details.

Yes, please join in.

I'll email you the meeting details.

There are a number of us out there looking to make Mendels, or are in
the process of doing so.

Speaking of which: I have some belts now. I bought two sets worth and
will be donating one set to CCHS for the CCHS Mendel effort.

Just in case you haven't seen this ... a highly compressed, time-lapse
video of a rep-strap Darwin building a rep-rap Mendel ...
