Hello all,
I have been to a few meetings and have met heaps of interesting people.
I am looking for people who are interested in Quadcopters. I have built one and am looking to rebuild it with a new (better) frame.

I have built a Arducopter Quadcopter. Its got a arduino based cpu with a huge shield pan with 6 axis accelerometers and barometers. I also have a GPS and compass
For more info http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/ArduCopter

I am looking to code for it once I rebuild the frame. I would be interested if anyone has any experience coding for this type of project.

If anyone is interested I might see you at the regular Tuesday meeting.

Hi Ardric,

I'd be interested. I have no experience coding this kind of project, but it's exactly the kind of thing I'd like to try. I have lots of general coding experience. So, I think it would also be good to draw on the experience of others in the group who have the more specific experience - but I am happy to put some time into it if that would be useful.

Cheers

Hi Adric,

I haven't been to any meetings yet but I'll probably be coming along
for my first visit next Monday with a 3D printer. If you happen to be
going next Monday I'd enjoy chatting about your quadcopter. I'm into R/
C helicopters myself, specifically the high performance electric kind.

Hey All,

I will be at this Tuesdays meeting with my quadcopter I have finally got communicate with my laptop and fly sending back telemetry.
Thanks to Andy for the Xbee help.

I am interested in talking to people who have built robots, UAVs or quadcopter or are interested in building these things.

I'll bring along my Ar.Drone Parrot ... even though it's just an
off-the-shelf quadcopter. I have written software for controlling it
via desktop/laptop over a TCP/IP socket, if anyone is interested.

In general, building up interest around a robotics / UAVs special
interest group at the HackerSpace is on the agenda now. If we can
encourage members to lead / organize a group, similar to how the 3D
printer group is now operating, that would excellent.

I hope to get delivery of one of these around September ...
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arcbotics/hexy-the-hexapod-low-cost-six-legged-open-robot

I'd like to design / build a tele-presence robot.

Andy that robot looks really cool and really interesting for people to learn robotics.

Here is something more extreme. Lifting championships from hobby king. Some amazing videos of some scary looking quadcopters. This one scares me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf6JKJyFLVI&feature=player_embedded#!

I would definitely like to see more Hackerspace projects such as robots and quadcopters on display at our next joint club event which will be Armageddon in October at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

A running 3D printer is also a must do.

I'd love to get involved in a quadrocopter project.

I have a remote controlled helicopter (petrol one) with all the radio and servos in my garage that I don't think I'll ever be using again. I'd love to see some part of it become useful again. if anyone want's to repair/dismantle it for parts.

Hi everyone,

I've actually got the ArduPilot mega 2 but no vehicle to stick it in,  I've just bought a 3-D printer a Ultimaker I was thinking I might be able to print the bits for a Quadcopter.  I might need a bit of help get going because of got not much idea of what I'm doing.

I've also got a fair bit of experience coding for the Arduino for another project I'm doing, turning an electric wheelchair into a robot, I'm using Java to send serial information to the Arduino to control the robot.  So I would gladly offer any assistance if I can.

If anyone's interested I've also started a blog on robots and stuff http://myrobotnstuff.blogspot.com.au/

Hi folks,

Are any of you quadcopter / robotics people looking for some radio control gear?

My father was a RC-plane / helicopter nut, and we've been trying to sort out and dispose of his RC gear. My brother has put together the following list of what transmitter / receiver gear is in the shed.

According to him, it's all still in the original boxes, comes with instruction manuals, receivers, servos, battery packs, etc.

2 * Futaba 6EX-2.4GHz (6 channel)
2 * Awesome RC Products 27MHz (4 channel)
1 * Hobbyking HK-T6Av2 (6 channel)
1 * TechniPlus AP-229 mkIII 29MHz (2 channel)

If anyone is interested or has questions, please drop me a line.

Many thanks,
Steve

I'm curious about quadcopters.
Ideally, something that can stream video and take stills with a GoPro camera.
Was reading about the Arducopter hardware/software at http://www.arducopter.co.uk/ only the other day, so seeing fresh activity on this thread is well timed. :)

Could you give us a talk/demo at the hackerspace some time?
How much payload weight can it carry?
I've seen designs for quadcopters built from perspex or plywood, which that would be quick to make with the laser-cutter. Also  wondering what improvements could be made with other materials such as 3D-printed parts, aluminium, or carbon fibre.

Cheers,
Damien

There are enough people interested in quadcopters at the space, who
either have or are in the process of building their UAV ... that it is
probably time to consider a SIG (Special Interest Group), like the 3D
printer mob, etc.

This could range from something low-key, like the gardening project ...
where those interested just email and self-organize to catch-up during
an existing session (like Tuesday evenings) from time-to-time ... or it
could be something more substantial that meets on a regular basis, e.g
monthly, fortnightly, weekly ... depending on interest levels. Perhaps
start gradually and build up.

If you want to get really inspired, I'd suggest looking at what
CanberraUAV have done (all open-source), which is closely aligned with
Make, Hack, Void (MHV).

Andy,

You are correct. Is it possible to use the back room during Tuesday? I am going to push for a small group to start meeting every second Tuesday at 7:30pm. This would help foster people interested.

So next Tuesday 7'30 at the hackerspace. I will post a new thread.

... +1 and go for it !

If there is any assistance you'd like ... be sure to ask everyone. As
Angus and I've found out again recently (and as the 3D printing group
already know) ... it is a lot for just one person to establish a new
session / group. So, if others help with getting organized, that will
make a huge difference.
