Hi everyone,

A little more information for those of you who couldn't make it to the SGM:

At the April 2012 Special General Meeting, the CCHS committee proposed
and the attending members voted to accept the facility fees described
below.  These fees are essential to cover the operating cost of the
group, including rental, utilities, insurance, some tools and
consumables.  The CCHS is a not-for-profit association and all funds are
used for the benefit of the members.

Again, the fee schedule is as follows:

- Full rate: $40 monthly or $480 per annually
- Concession rate: $20 monthly or $240 annually

These fees can be paid by direct deposit via on-line banking or at a
Westpac branch into the CCHS bank account ...
 BSB: 033 157
 Account: 359055

Please ensure that the transaction description looks like "Fee FirstName
LastName" to help with record keeping.  If you require a receipt, please
let us know.

The concession rate is for members who are students, retired,
unemployed, etc ... and based on an honour system.

The existing membership fee of $50 (for voting rights) is incorporated
as part of the facility fees and requires no additional payment.

If it is possible to pay annually in advance, that would be greatly
appreciated, because that would significantly help with planning a
budget for 2012.  However, monthly payments in advance are completely
welcome, because the payment arrangements must met the needs of the members.

If you have only just found out about the Melbourne HackerSpace, you are
very welcome to come along to a few meetings, kick the tyres and get to
know the group before committing to becoming a financial member.

If you have any questions or feedback about the facility fees, including
any problems paying the fees ... please contact the CCHS committee in
person or via email "connected-community-committee at googlegroups dot
com" ... because we are a community group and keeping the membership
strong is our main aim.

Kind regards and happy hacking,
Chris Pendlebury, CCHS treasurer

Given that the CCHS is a not-for-profit organization with a turn-over of
less than $150K per annum ... we are not registered for GST ...

http://www.ato.gov.au/nonprofit/content.aspx?doc=/content/33538.htm&page=2&H2

Since we are not registered for GST, then our fees do not include GST ...

http://www.ato.gov.au/nonprofit/content.aspx?menuid=0&doc=/content/33538.htm&page=4&H4

This also means that the CCHS can not claim GST credits as part of any
purchases made by the CCHS.

No problem, exGST is fine. What is the ABN for my accounts.

Although you are not charging, you of course also can't claim your GST off payments, like rent either.
The $150,000 is only the point where you are required to, you still can optionally.

If you charge now
$110 no GST
and payments for rent is
$110 with GST

Then you are even.

If you register for GST then

if you now charge
$100 + $10 GST - you owe $10 to ATO
and payment for rent is
$100 + $10 GST - you now owe ATO nothing

So I totally understand avoiding the fuss of BAS. The only disadvantage is the 10% paid extra by professionals, who could have otherwise claimed that. But since the fee is so low, maybe this is not a concern either.

Something worth adding to your list to review once a year, in case the numbers change. e.g. if you get a grant, but still have to pay bills, you don't pay GST on the grant, but you still could claim off the payments and be ahead.

Hi Andy,

What is the current method CCHS is confirming the membership subscriptions.  i.e. when CCHS receives membership fee is there a reverse confirmation of the amount.  Also in the website it will be good to add the Account name. The transfer protocols require three things (BSB, Account name, Account number) was not sure it is CCHS or hackmelbourne.

Hi Dinesh,

We use CiviCRM and google apps to process memberships.

If you're particularly interested in the details, you are quite welcome to get involved with committee and membership processing, come chat to us.

Cheers
