hi All,

Tomorrow morning, George will be kicking off the next stage of the Laser
Tag group project. This will be the best time to get an introduction to
the project and get in at the ground level. He has some evaluation
sound boards that look quite interesting. This project will covers all
sorts of interesting areas of electronics, embedded / server-side
software, communications, infra-red tx/rx and, of course ... mad weapon
design :)

Liam and I will be hacking the HackerSpace LED sign ... adding an
Arduino and Zigbee and connecting it to the Internet. Will probably use
a Raspberry Pi as the intermediary server.

Anyone else got recreational hacking plans ?

I was thinking of something like this...

Not sure about using an aluminium body on this "Tesla Gun" design, however.

Wes.

I'll be getting there at 10:30 or a little before hand. For tomorrow,
I'd like to do an introduction and also the scope of the basics. If we
agree on defined communication protocols, it means that anyone should
be able to build their own system and there is not reconfiguring when
changing to a different venue/system.

Regarding Tagger design... Best to keep in mind that custom designs
seem to take longer than you might expect. Re-purposing something that
already exists will be a lot quicker and gets you onto the game field
quicker.

Speaking of which has anyone seen those vended plastic capsules
containing children's toys? I am considering using them for protecting
the sensor boards.. will need a stack of them from ebay or DX. Err...
Okay.. I meant a lot as spherical objects will not stack above each
other.

In bulk (250!! for around $US24):

or even better:

I'll update this find in the wiki.

There is also the optics for focusing the IR... rather than the TV
remote control where it may still interact with the tv if you point it
at the ceiling or the wall behind you.

For those who might be on a tight budget, I'd say don't get the
evaluation boards as you can do a lot of the development without one.
(Think of it as a write only device from the Arduino.. well 99% of the
time as there is a nvcfg for permanently setting the volume and a some
other parameters)

It would be awesome if we could develop some of the sub-systems in parallel.

Regards

George
