Hi all,

Just a reminder that we've got the 3D printing night coming up again.

 Date: Monday 19th November
 Time: 6pm start, 10pm finish

We had a bumper night with lots of new people along on the 5th. We've got some new people coming along too, so a numbers are growing steadily.

Looking like it'll be really good weather on Monday arvo, so should be quite warm.

Garry Stone has suggested bringing in his Kinect and doing some head/object scanning, so if you'd like to see that (I know I would) then speak up!

This would be great to see, however I will not be able to make it this Monday 19 Nov (another project),
but i will be able to make it on Tue 20 nov
can some one record the process of using the Kinect to do the scan? or is there a page already somewhere on the net?

Bogdan

I was planning on going Monday night, but I was wondering if it would be ok for me to bring along my Mendalmax (Hello Thingy)?

I have reached the point where my kits youtube video instructions have ended (just before all the wiring) and I just need to work out the wiring for the hot head thing.

The software Im using is reconstructme here is there installation page
It does require pretty beefy graphics, I bought my newest laptop specifically because the graphics card was listed on the compatability page, running anything less than this though makes it near impossible, gforce 630M here and it would be as low a card as would probably work well, I get 30fps in the scanning app and it works pretty effectively.

Once you get a good mesh then its just like editing any other 3d object, I use netfabb to cut the torso to give a nice flat bottom, and meshlab to clean up and simplify the mesh.  Dont think we'll have time to go through all that in one night though, Ill be concentrating on getting as many headscans as I can done in the evening, I can then share them back to the people who participate, at which point you can all do your own clean up, we may get as far as printing one small bust.

April, feel free to bring along Hello Thingy. That's part of what the 3D printer night is all about: Helping and learning from each other.

Great to see the enthu.

As mentioned in my last (first) visit, I am planning to bring my Prusa. Need some help in fixing the extruder issue and upgrading my firmware.  Additoinally I want to finalise actions on my next project - Ord Bot printer.

Will appreciate your help guys.
