Since my son Ben Harper and several of his mates joined the HackerSpace and began attending the Saturday sessions I have been very impressed with the opportunities that this has given him. I have appreciated the leadership and guidance that Andy Gelme has given the lads. I have also recognised though that for this Saturday facility to be sustainable, we have to rely more on ourselves and not just leave it all to Andy.
It seems to me that we should consider establishing a roster of people willing to help keep the garage open on Saturdays. At the moment it is not usually open on Saturday afternoons. I suggest that we establish a roster broken into Saturday half days. The more of us who participate the less of a burden it will be on anyone’s time.
Parents of the kids who are attending on Saturdays can probably easily put in a few hours of general supervision while they are helping their own children. But there are many in the wider HackerSpace community who have valuable knowledge to share with the younger members and it would be really appreciated if you could also volunteer to help out, even if it were only a half day every couple of months.
I suggest that the roster would only run during school terms, as most of us are around then, so it will not be too much of an imposition. If you indicate that you are willing to help out then I will draw up the roster. Of course if a particular session doesn’t suit, it will simply be a matter of swapping with someone, and if we all have goodwill then I don’t see that will be a problem.
I'm happy to help out when available, but our Saturdays are pretty hectic and our scheduling is a bit tight. We currently run between sporting events and HackerSpace each Saturday.
We can probably nominate 2 or 3-hour windows each weekend (based on sport schedules) once the term gets fully underway. I'm not sure if that would be helpful, or just annoying to try and organise, but we do expect to be at HackerSpace each Saturday, mostly between 11am and 1pm.

Thanks for offering to help out on Saturdays. Please see the roster for the rest of this year attached. Your afternoon dates are 10 November and 8 December. If you have a problem with these just email me at har...@bigpond.net.au and I can reorganise. Cheers
Ron
